About Us:
Bidgerdii Community Health Service is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community controlled primary health care service, operating in the Rockhampton and Central Queensland region for close to 30 years. The organisation is a bulk billing community-controlled health service, managed by a Board of Directors who oversee and manage the strategic directions of the service.
Bidgerdii provides comprehensive primary health and well-being services to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community in the Rockhampton and surrounding regions. Bidgerdii collaborates with health and well-being partner agencies to enable integrated continuity of care for the community and continue to work to contribute to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health policy and program reform in Queensland.
About the Role:
This position is located within the Rockhampton Clinic and forms part of the Clinic team with is responsible for specialist community and primary health nursing services that focuses on the prevention, early detection and management of health problems for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Reporting to the Clinical Team Leader in this role you will be primarily responsible for coordinating COVID clinics (as this aligns to the funding), as well as other immunisation/vaccination clinics to respond to client needs (e.g. Flu Clinics, Child/Health immunisations, Shingles etc etc).
About You:
You a compassionate, optimistic individual wanting to make a difference in peoples lives especially our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and also have the following:
- Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as a Division 1 Nurse with additional qualifications in Immunisation, as an accredited Nurse Immuniser.
- Experience in delivering Immunisation services in a community or municipal organisation is desirable.
- Demonstrated clinical experience, in particular the ability to implement and support a medical/primary health care team and effectively plan, and coordinate workload to achieve results.
- Demonstrated ability to comply with the profession’s code of ethics and function in accordance with legislation affecting nursing practice.
- Ability to collate and maintain data collection systems in a community service setting.
- Ability to liaise with people and staff of all ages and backgrounds.
- Effective communication skills and a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
- Demonstrated managerial skills with experience and knowledge of social, emotional and mental health issues which may include culturally appropriate healing methods and trauma and grief counselling skills.
- Ability to work as an effective member of a team and willingness to refer clients to other services when necessary.
- Ability to manage completing priorities and deliver timely outcomes with limited supervision.
- Demonstrated experience with working with families and commitment to ensuring continuity of care.
- Demonstrated high level knowledge and experience in using computers and particularly the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders societies and cultures and an understanding of the issues, particularly in the health area which are affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, as well as, a demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Practical Requirements:
- Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD) – essential
- Immunisation requirements – It is a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against the following vaccine preventable diseases: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis A, COVID19 and pertussis (whooping cough) during their employment.
- Satisfactory Police Criminal History Check.
