Our Journey
As one of the largest children’s hospitals in Australia, and one of only two tertiary paediatric hospitals in Victoria, Monash Children’s Hospital (MCH) cares for more than 100,000 children each year, providing care across the continuum of paediatric services from birth to 18 years of age.
Co-located next to Monash Medical Centre (MMC) in Clayton, MCH is a purpose-built paediatric facility where clinical services are delivered in a child- and family-friendly environment.
Canopy Ward is an integral part of MCH and is a 32-bed medical unit providing general medicine, specialist medicine, respiratory, oncology and haematology services.
We are now seeking a suitably qualified Nurse Manager to lead and mentor the team in Canopy Ward. This is a rare and exceptional opportunity for a highly motivated and skilled professional with strong leadership skills to join the team in a permanent role working full time hours Monday-Friday.
A Day in the Life

Working collaboratively with a high performing multidisciplinary team, we’ll look to you to lead and direct the team to enable achievement of the ward’s current and future strategic and operational goals.
Specifically, you will:
  • Work effectively with nursing leadership, multidisciplinary health care team and consumers at MCH to ensure the provision of excellent patient care
  • Ensure that effective systems are in place to plan, facilitate and evaluate services for the care of paediatric oncology (patients) at both local and statewide levels
  • Represent Canopy at strategic planning and paediatric associated forums and meetings
  • Collaborate with health professionals both within and external to Monash Health in developing, monitoring and reporting key clinical indicators
  • Develop and facilitate strategies to build and maintain a cohesive clinical team to support collaborative, family focussed care
  • Provide mentorship, support and direction for professional development of nurses
  • Develop strategies to manage a streamlined excellent continuum of care throughout the service and patient services
  • Ensure optimal patient outcomes by promoting and environment embracing best practice through staff development and quality improvement/research activity
About You
You’re a dedicated and innovative professional, looking for a meaningful role in a well-regarded multidisciplinary team. As an effective and collaborative team member, you demonstrate leadership, initiative and sound judgment in day-to-day decision making and can also engage in strategic thinking to respond to changing service needs. You have a passion for promoting the best outcomes for children and their families.
What you need
If you can demonstrate that you satisfy the following mandatory criteria, we’d love to hear from you:
  • Current registration with Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia via AHPRA
  • A passion to lead, mentor and inspire a team to always strive for excellence
  • Extensive experience within the paediatric care setting, with general medicine, specialist medicine, respiratory, oncology and haematology services highly preferred
  • Postgraduate qualification or studies in management and leadership
  • Good Clinical Practice certification
  • Membership or relevant professional bodies
In Return
MCH is a state-of-the-art facility. This leadership opportunity is an important role in the strategic direction, growth and development of paediatric services within MCH.
Our full-time employees have the opportunity to accrue a day off every four weeks. In addition, you will have access to benefits including salary packaging options that increase your take-home pay, access to onsite subsidised staff car parking and a comprehensive Health and Wellbeing Program.
