Newcastle Private is seeking an Nurse Unit Manager for our Rehabilitation Ward, with excellent leadership skills and a passion for delivering high quality patient care to join our team on a Full-time Basis.
As Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) you will be a role model of our Healthscope values and responsible for providing leadership direction to the Rehabilitation ward & Allied Health team to support the strategic direction, operational processes, budget and business direction of the hospital.

We are a 189 bed, acute, private hospital facility co-located on the John Hunter Campus at Rankin Park. The hospital has 11 theatres including a hybrid theatre and a 15 bed Intensive Care Unit.
We also have a cardiac suite including a cardiac catheter laboratory and a 16 bed Coronary Care Unit. A private maternity suite including 6 birthing suites and a special care baby nursery is available for families in the Newcastle region. Newcastle Private Oncology Centre provides specialty care for individuals and their families/carers undergoing all aspects of cancer treatment and care with both an inpatient unit and day infusion lounge.
As a Nurse Unit Manager your responsibilities will include:
- Provide leadership and direction to the ward to complement the strategic direction, operational processes, budget and business direction of the hospital
- Provide operational direction for the unit to ensure efficient and effective management of the area and coordinate the delivery of the nursing care that is evidence based
- Be accountable and responsible for the effective management of human, financial and material resources and ensure the customer service is maintained at optimal levels
- Undertake direct patient care as required providing guidance and support to less experienced members of nursing team
- Work as part of the healthcare team, adhere to Healthscope and site policies and procedures and key performance indicators
- Participate in working parties/committees and demonstrate a commitment to continuous quality improvements through NSQHS, workplace health and safety and achievement of hospital accreditation
Essential Criteria:
- Current Registration with AHPRA
- A Minimum of 5+ years relevant experience
- Post Graduate qualification in a relevant specialty field (or working towards)
- Experience in managing a department (including acting/deputising a manager role)
- Compliance with ACSQHC National standards
- A strong commitment to developing in a management role
- Computer literacy including MS office and various data bases
- Ability to work cohesively within a team environment
- Proven time management and prioritisation skills
- Demonstrate a sound knowledge base in labour management
- Demonstrated HR management experience

If you are successful in the role, you will receive a salary based on your years of relevant registered nursing experience against the current Healthscope and NSWNMA/ANMF – NSW Nurses and Midwives’ – Enterprise Agreement 2020 – 2024, a salary ranging from $35.46 - $49.79 per hour.
