Job Description
YOUR ROLE
The Occupational Therapist (0.6FTE 12 months fixed-term) role is a key member of the Learning Diversity team at Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS), focusing on students entering their first year of schooling. The team aims to provide comprehensive support, including appropriate adjustments, recommendations, and equipment, through an established referral process. The Occupational Therapist plays a vital role in promoting inclusive, evidence-based curriculum approaches to address deficits in motor planning, sensory processing, social learning, self-regulation, and play skills. This aligns with MACS's Strategy Plan, emphasizing shared leadership, creativity, and innovative practices to meet the diverse needs of all learners across cultural, academic, social-emotional, and physical attributes.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Support school leadership teams and individual staff to improve access and learning outcomes for students with complex needs transitioning into their foundation year.
- Take a leading role in developing and delivering professional learning sessions for schools to effectively support students with complex sensory needs, necessitating extensive adjustments.
- Prioritize collaboration and consultation with teaching staff to address students' sensory and sensorimotor needs, fostering functional and social-emotional learning within the school environment.
- Conduct assessments to contribute to the planning process for addressing students' functional and sensory needs.
ABOUT YOU
- Proven ability to offer expert consultation to schools, specializing in crafting evidence-based, teacher-driven educational and behavioral plans for students dealing with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), learning difficulties, and challenging behaviors.
- Demonstrated proficiency in administering and interpreting occupational therapy assessments, utilizing insights to implement necessary adjustments, ensuring the inclusive participation of students facing learning difficulties or challenging behaviors.
- Skillful in collaborating with school personnel to enhance teacher capacity, enabling the effective delivery of a diverse array of evidence-based practices to support students with learning difficulties and challenging behaviors.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills, encompassing extensive experience in effective consultation.
This is a fixed term 0.6 FTE role for 12 months. The salary range for this position is $91,427 - $103,778 pro rata per annum exclusive of superannuation and commensurate with skills and experience.
