George Street Primary School is situated approximately 295ks west of Melbourne, set back from the road in picturesque surroundings. The school's facilities consist of, two ovals, lush lawns, playgrounds along with its own stadium. Classrooms have been updated and are well resourced, with interactive televisions in every classroom, laptops, ipads and a range of learning technologies to ensure students are in line with 21st century teaching and learning. The school is currently undergoing building works and by the end of 2020 students will have a portable building to compliment its new toilet block, along with our modern Art room and teaching kitchen. Our staff are innovative, striving to continuously update their learning to meet the latest Departmental requirements and initiatives. Staff utilize the CAFÉ reading, Spelling Mastery and the Big Write teaching strategies for a consistent approach.
Students set their own learning goals and negotiate with their teacher through extensive conferencing their own individual learning plan, to suit their learning style and needs. We offer intervention programs including Multi-Lit & Mini-Lit, Cued Articulation, along with extension programs. The school follows clear expectations in the Code of Conduct, following 1,2,3 MAGIC approach that also allows for restorative approaches to be engaged to ensure relationships are at the forefront. Students are expected to take ownership of their learning through Student Led Presentations in Term 3 where they discuss their learning, goals and strategies to improve with their parents. They also link in with the wider community through inquiry research projects, volunteering, reading with the elderly and data /research collection with local businesses.
Student leadership programs and strong student voice ensures our students have an input into their learning, including choices on yearly programs. We provide a quality camps program for team-building and individualised skill development, along with feedback processes where students become part of the feedback for improvement process during Focused Learning Walks.
We have a strong focus on Literacy & Numeracy, however manage to offer a variety of specialist subjects, including Music, Art, ICT, STEAM subjects and PE /Health. We also provide an extensive use of ICT, including interactive white boards & ipads and every classroom is equipped with the latest in interactive televisions.
Transition programs are strong at George Street Primary with local kinders visiting regularly for school based programs, along with a whole school ‘Moving up’ day in term four.
Community based programs are a strong focus at the School, with students liaising with local business during inquiry learning, younger students assisting with Meals on Wheels and our reading program where prep students visit local aged homes.

Role
Performs and/or supervises tasks that are carried out in accordance with guidelines, accepted practice and school policy. This may include the supervision and coordination of other education support class staff within the work area or educational program. Supervision and coordination would be limited to ensuring routine tasks are performed to required standards. Input into identifying training needs and development of education support class staff within the work area or educational program becomes an important feature at range 2.
Specialised support to achieve specific outcomes is a feature of range 2. Typically this will involve accountability for a single function, (e.g. ensuring data is properly maintained) or the operation of a work area (e.g. managing the day to day operation of a school office) under the direction of the principal or another senior manager.
Provides support to teachers and students that is beyond the routine support provided at education support class Level 1, range 1. Within an educational program assists teachers with the coordination of the support function, such as directing/organising the work of other support staff or providing a specialist support role.
Undertakes medical intervention support tasks or other specialised student/teacher support roles that require specific training that must be updated from time to time. The role is for a specific purpose for which there will be direct accountability as opposed to support roles that are carried out by a range of staff performing routine tasks under direction.
Performs technical tasks that require a sound knowledge of basic technical and/or scientific principles that are used to develop and adapt work methods and make judgements where there are clear guidelines and limited options. Routine technical support in libraries, science and information technology laboratories would be typical examples.
