An emerging business in Douglas Daly, NT, is looking for an experienced individual to join their team in the cropping sector of this cooperation.
Our client manages a large family-owned mixed farming operation spanning 4,000 hectares in the Northern Territory near Douglas Daly. Currently, the business cultivates hay, seeds, mixed crops and livestock. The cropping area totals 600 hectares, including two 40-hectare towable centre pivots and one 50-hectare centre pivot. This location offers an ideal opportunity to experience all the NT provides.We seek a highly motivated, experienced, and conscientious individual to join this professional, family-owned and operated business. The ideal candidate will have experience in broadacre and irrigated cropping, particularly in spraying, sowing, pivots, seed production and harvesting. Additionally, experience with hay-making equipment and operations would be desirable. High-level mechanical and workshop qualifications and skills, including welding, are essential. An HC or MC truck license is preferred, and livestock handling experience would be a bonus.
As part of the team, you will work with modern farming machinery and equipment, including Case headers and John Deere tractors. You will be responsible for all mechanical and maintenance programs, general farm work, haymaking, and some livestock handling. This is a developing role, so for the right candidate, there is ample room for progression into a position with more responsibility and autonomy. Work is also available for a partner to work in the livestock operation if applicable.
To be considered for the role, you must have the following attributes and qualifications:
- Experience working with broadacre cropping equipment such as tractors, seeders, loaders, sprayers, trucks, harvesters, chaser bins, and windrowers.
- Experience with hay-making equipment such as rakes and balers is desirable.
- Possession of an HC Licence and the ability and willingness to upgrade are desirable.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work unsupervised, be self-motivated, follow instructions, and enjoy problem-solving as part of a team.
- Willingness to learn and take responsibility.
- Chem Cert certification.
- Workshop skills such as mechanical, maintenance, welding, etc. Mechanical qualifications and high-level skills are preferred.
- Livestock handling experience is a bonus.
- Honesty, reliability and ability to take initiative.
