The role
We are currently seeking a career-minded Farm Hand / potential 2IC to help manager Luke at our iconic Manbulloo Farm, near Katherine NT.
Main responsibilities include:
- Implementing weekly and seasonal plans as discussed with the Farm Manager, including canopy management, irrigation, pest and disease management, weed management and so on
- Mixing and spraying
- Crop inspections and monitoring
- Maintaining activity records
- Inspecting, cleaning and maintaining equipment and irrigation systems
- Assisting with harvest in the field or the shed, as required
- Operating tractors and other farm machinery
- Other duties as required by the Farm Manager
As you'd expect, this is a hands-on role first and foremost. However, there is an element of leadership of self and others involved too, so you'll need to take responsibility, show initiative and interact well with people.
You
To be successful in the position you will probably have had experience working on a farm before, but integrity, work ethic and application are the most important things:
- Ability to operate machinery and equipment competently and safely
- A solid work ethic
- Good self and time management
- Task focus and diligence
- Flexibility in moving from task to task easily
- Reasonable reading, writing and numeracy skills
- A calm, positive attitude, and willingness to get in and do the job efficiently and effectively
