About the Role:

The Healthcare Technology Management Department is responsible for the management of all aspects of healthcare technology (HT) inventory (medical equipment, medical electrical systems, and medical IT networks) by providing a quality Biomedical Engineering (BME) service to all CHS clients. This includes ensuring that safe, clinically effective healthcare technology is available at the right time, in the right place and in the right state to support quality patient care. This service includes but is not limited to:

• 

Development, implementation, and maintenance of a strategic healthcare technology plan.

• 

Specification/statement of requirement and tender preparation, tender evaluation, installation, commissioning, acceptance testing and project management for the procurement of healthcare technology.

• 

Technical management of healthcare technology - the development and implementation of technical management programs for each item.

• 

Maintenance of a healthcare technology register.

• 

Advice on the Australian and International Standards that should be met by the healthcare technology, systems, and installations under their control.

• 

Engineering and technical advice on healthcare technology matters, and in particular developments in technology and the technology that will efficiently and effectively assist them to meet desired clinical outcomes.

Training and advice to staff on the correct and safe use of healthcare Technology.

Advice on the development and maintenance of safe working environments for areas in which healthcare technology is used.

The BME Operations Manager is accountable to the Director of Healthcare Technology Management (DHTM), for the efficient management and coordination of technical staff and resources of the Operations Division aligned with the Department’s policies including resolution of daily operational matters and regularly reviewing and keeping abreast of all administrative policy changes.

Canberra Hospital Expansion Project – CHS is constructing a new Critical Services Building called ‘Building 5’ which is a 44,000sqm nine storey building specifically designed to deliver state-of-the-art acute clinical services at the Canberra Hospital. Building 5 is the largest healthcare infrastructure project undertaken in the Territory’s history and it represents the largest clinical and operational change program to ever be implemented by Canberra Health Services. Building 5 integrates with a number of existing buildings at the Campus including Building 1 and Building 2, to facilitate a seamless public thoroughfare, patient transportation and back-of-house logistics distribution.

North Canberra Hospital - As of 3 July 2023 Calvary Public Hospital Bruce transitioned to CHS and became North Canberra Hospital. The transition will deliver a health system networked under one provider and will provide increased workforce opportunities for staff at both CHS sites. The ACT Government will be building a new northside hospital on the existing hospital campus in Bruce to meet the growing health care needs of our community, with construction to commence mid-decade providing more beds, increased services, and increased career opportunities.
