Job description

Applications are now open for a Fellow in Burns to join the team from July 2024 for 6 months. This position is full-time.

The RCH Burns Service is the Victorian statewide burns service for children, providing complete care for Victorian children with major burns, as well as an important proportion of children with minor burns. Burns care is strongly multi-disciplinary, and surgical management of burns involves both Paediatric Surgery and Plastics and Reconstructive Surgery team members.

The primary purpose of this role is to provide training, development and mentorship in contemporary Paediatric Burns surgery, These goals are principally met through participation in evidence-based and state-of-the-art burns care at RCH. This will include participation in, and middle-grade leadership of, RCH burns inpatient and outpatient care, elective theatre lists, in-hours emergency burns care, and ad hoc emergency engagement with major burns. The intention is that the Burns Fellow be exposed to both acute burns and long-term burns scar management, including reconstructive surgery and laser applications.

In addition, the Burns Fellow will be encouraged, and as possible enabled, to participate in the clinical research activities of the Burns Service, with focus and methodologies under the guidance of

RCH Burns Service senior staff and leadership.

Ultimately, this role aims to train future, expert and caring consultant surgeons who are committed to and skilled in excellent Paediatric Burns surgery and its broader positive role in multidisciplinary burns care.
