The Facility:
This is an acute care teaching hospital of approximately 600 beds, and a tertiary referral centre that provides a broad range of specialist services to the local and regional community. This is the largest public hospital in the region, supporting a population of almost 540,000, with strong links to community-based services that provide continuity of care for patients. The hospital is also the principal teaching hospital of the region with close links to the 17th best university in the world and number one in Australia.
The Department:
The Department of Paediatrics and Child Health is the principal centre for children’s medical and surgical services in the ACT. There is a large inpatient department for Paediatric and Adolescent Medicine and Surgery, with 48 beds.
The Department of Paediatrics provides general paediatric services to approximately 450 in-patients and 1000 out-patients each month. The Department is staffed by 6.6 Staff Specialists (4.2 General Paediatrics, 2 Endocrinology, 1 Gastroenterology/General Paediatrics), 3 VMOs, a general paediatric clinical fellow, 8 registrars and 8 residents.
The department is accredited for training with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. The department is not a tertiary paediatric department.
The Role:
Applications are sought for Advanced Trainee Registrar positions in Paediatrics and Child Health.
The hospital is able to offer 6-month rotations in Community Paediatrics and Child Protection.
Also rural rotations, 6-month rotations to NICU, 3 month rotations through Paediatric Emergency and 3-month rotations to the Children’s Hospital to fulfil college requirements.
