About the Hospital:
North Canberra Hospital (formerly Calvary Public Hospital Bruce) and Clare Holland House are now run and operated by Canberra Health Services (CHS)
This is a significant milestone as the ACT Government moves towards delivering a new billion-dollar hospital on Canberra’s Northside.
The current North Canberra Hospital is a level 4 hospital that provides a range of acute and sub-acute services including community based care to the residents of the northside of Canberra and Southern NSW. North Canberra Hospital (NCH) is a 270 public hospital located in Canberra’s expanding northside. North Canberra Hospital operates a 24 hour Emergency Department. Inpatient services include general medicine, surgery, maternity, mental health and critical care.
Other service modalities include day surgery, specialist outpatient clinics, Hospital in the Home and the Geriatric Rapid Acute Care Evaluation service that reaches into aged care facilities across the ACT.
The new Northside Hospital will be built on the existing Calvary Hospital campus in Bruce. It will be a modern, state-of-the-art hospital for patients, visitors and its workforce and will provide more beds and increased services. Until then, it's business as usual at the NCH, and we'll keep providing high-quality care to our patients and community.
About the role:
The NCH Neurology department are seeking a 3rd year trainee who is looking to expand their sub-specialty experience in stroke or general neurology or headache or multiple sclerosis by doing a year of non-core training.
The Senior Registrar will contribute to the department of neurology and stroke by undertaking care of both inpatients and outpatients under the supervision of the consultant neurologists in the department. They will run a rapid-access category 1 clinic and do subspecialty clinics. There will be opportunity to do TIA/Stroke or MS or Headache clinic including Botox injections upon discussion and agreement with the department head. Participation in neurophysiology clinics including EEG and NCS will be possible upon discussion and agreement with the head of department.
It is expected that the Senior Registrar will participate in 2-3 outpatient clinics per week and in addition, the Senior Registrar will contribute to the out-of-hours, on-call roster for neurology and stroke. These on-call duties include assessment and management of acute stroke patients who may require acute therapy (thrombolysis and assess suitability for endovascular clot retrieval) and undertaking ward rounds on weekends, suitable support by the on-call consultant will be provided.
The Senior Registrar will gain experience in management of complex neurology patient care, both inpatient and outpatient. There will also be the opportunity for the Senior Registrar to participate in research projects.
