Position Title: Gynaecology Oncology Unaccredited Senior Registrar

The Division of Women, Youth and Children (WYC) provides a broad range of primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare services. Service provision is based on a family-centred, interdisciplinary approach to care, in partnership with consumers and other service providers.

The Centenary Hospital for Women and Children is the level 6 tertiary referral centre for the ACT and surrounding region with over 3700 births.  It has a busy Neonatal Intensive Care Unit with a regional role extending throughout southern NSW and over 200 level 3 admissions each year.  The service is strongly committed to providing care that is child, family and woman focused.  The WYC is made up of a highly qualified team of medical, nursing and midwifery and allied health practitioners, administrative and other support services. The service has a significant teaching, training and research program as well as strong clinical and professional governance structures and processes to ensure delivery of safe, high quality healthcare.

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O&G) are seeking Senior Registrars to join our team of committed O&G Medical Practitioners for the following opportunities:

·         Senior Registrar – Advanced Obstetrics

·         Senior Registrar – Advanced Gynaecology

·         Senior Registrar –Obstetrics/Gynaecology

·         Unaccredited Fellow – Gynaecology Oncology

It is expected the Advanced Obstetric rotation will include:

·         Senior training in high risk antenatal care, working directly with the Obstetric Physician and Maternal Medicine Specialists’.  Gain experience in special interest clinics which are endocrinology and multiple birth clinics.

·         Opportunity to work alongside Maternal Fetal Medicine and be part of a multidisciplinary team managing the pre-term birth clinic.

·         Develop the ultrasound skills for a level 6 Labour Ward Obstetrician.

·         The advanced obstetric Senior Registrar will be an integral part of the high risk Obstetric team, advising on and managing the intrapartum care for high risk women.  They will also work with the multidisciplinary team caring for those women with Placental adherence spectrum (PAS) in their antenatal care and delivery planning.

Gynaecology Oncology – Unaccredited Fellow

The Gynaecology Oncology service at Canberra Health Services was established in 2024. The duties of the fellow within the role of this service include:

·         Management of Gynaecology Oncology inpatients

·         Maintaining an overview of the oncology operating lists and patients on the waiting list

·         Participating in, preparing, and following up on patients discussed at the Gynaecology Oncology multidisciplinary meeting.

·         Attendance at Gynaecology Oncology operating lists. Including assisting at Private Hospitals.

·         Supervision of the attached ITP trainee (three-month rotation) and RMO/ SRMO (three-month rotation).  

·         Management and supervision of the laparoscopic training curriculum and laparoscopic training equipment in partnership with the laparoscopic training program coordinator. Participate in the after hours roster as required for completion of advanced training modules and professional development. For year six trainees this will include the opportunity to undertake Senior Registrar lists and oversee acute services as the acting consultant on call.

Senior Registrar –Obstetrics/Gynaecology

There is a focus on advanced training for the 6th year trainee to prepare candidates for consultant positions.  The successful candidates will have the opportunity for Senior Registrar-led clinics and theatre lists, and the opportunity to oversee the acute Obstetrics and Gynaecological services in a consultant-level capacity, with adequate support.

The Senior Registrar positions will also include supervision of junior trainees and staff and an administrative component, related to Rostering, Education and Clinical Governance.

There is a strong history of research and audit at The Canberra Hospital and participation in this is expected. Ample opportunities exist for collaborative research with Australian National University, John Curtin School of Medical Research and the National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health. Candidates who have progressed into RANZCOG advanced training would be desirable.

These Senior Registrar positions provide opportunities for 5th year or 6th year advanced trainees to develop the next generation of future clinicians to contribute and deliver excellent and innovative O&G healthcare services to the community.

DUTIES

Under limited direction of the Medical Unit Director you will perform:

  1. Clinical duties including care of patients in the Birthing Suite, Inpatient Units, Theatre, Outpatient clinics, Early Pregnancy Unit and Maternity Assessment Unit.
  2. Attend to administrative duties, including registrar and JMO rosters, and attend meetings requiring registrar representation. The SR will have the support of administrative staff for completing the registrar and JMO rosters.
  3. Report regularly all matters of significance to the ITP Training Coordinator and Clinical Director.
  4. Participate in quality improvement, peer review and research programs.
  5. Participate in lecturing and training of Junior Medical Officers, Medical Students, Nurses, Midwives, Allies Health Professionals.

6.    Experience with clinical research and writing of scientific papers.

7.    Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Position Requirements / Qualifications

Mandatory

·         Be registered or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

  • Completion, or near completion of Basic Fellowship training with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists or equivalent training outside of Australia.

·         Successful completion of the FRANZCOG Examinations or equivalent specialist examinations*.

·         CHS is leading the drive to digitally transform health service delivery in Australia through the implementation of a territory wide Digital Health Record. Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates and contingencies.

Desirable

·         Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.

·         Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in alignment to the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, Clinical Governance Framework, Partnering With Consumers Framework and all other related frameworks.

Please note prior to commencement successful candidates will be required to:

·         Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.

·         Comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy.

 
WHAT YOU REQUIRE

These are the key selection criteria for how you will be assessed in conjunction with your resumé and experience. 

  1. MBBS degree registrable with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  2. Ability to balance training and education requirements with service provision, within the limitations of a busy public health service.
  3. Sufficient experience and availability to participate in the after-hours O&G roster.
  4. Demonstrable interpersonal, communication and team building skills appropriate to work in a multidisciplinary clinical environment. While having sufficient experience to supervise junior medical staff independently.
  5. Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, work, health and safety (WH&S) and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful and kind.
