Paramedic (Mt Holland)

Covalent Lithium is a new greenfield lithium project that is currently under construction to develop the Mt Holland lithium project and produce battery-quality lithium hydroxide in Western Australia. Our project is backed by the expertise and funding of our joint venture partners – SQM and Wesfarmers. 

The Mt Holland project consists of a mine and concentrator located south of Southern Cross and a refinery at Kwinana that will produce 50,000 tonnes of lithium hydroxide once construction and commissioning is complete. Our lithium hydroxide will be exported to international manufacturers to produce over 1 million electric vehicles. This is an exciting opportunity to join a battery metals project that is driving the new energy sector in WA.

The Role

As our onsite paramedic, you will provide high-quality emergency medical care and services to employees and contractors on-site. This includes responding to medical emergencies, conducting regular health checks, and promoting health and safety standards.

This is a Permanent Full-Time FIFO position ex Perth to our Mt Holland site on an 8:6 roster.

Key Responsibilities 

Technical/Functional/Role

• Provide health care treatment and emergency medical care
• Undertake initial and follow-up treatment for injuries and illnesses as required, including all documentation of treatments and management of health records, as per operating procedures.
• Preparing and delivering written reports on the state of injuries and treatment provided.
• Assist the monitoring of returning injured employees through an effective rehabilitation program.
• Assist in the development of a health and wellness programs on site.
• Communicate effectively and appropriately with injured personnel, relatives, health professionals and other emergency services, and relevant site leaders to ensure the best possible care is provided
• Work closely with health and safety professionals to contribute to the ongoing preventative and proactive health and safety strategies to continue to reduce non-work and work-related injuries and illnesses
• Ensure confidentiality is maintained and protected at all time
• Ensure equipment is prepared, maintained and ready in accordance with required standards
• Interact effectively as part of the emergency response team within your own team, with other teams and emergency services to ensure delivery of patient care is optimised.
• Assist in the development and training of site emergency response teams.

Health, Safety, Environment and Community

• Active participation in the establishment of a health and safety culture.
• Undertake all work in a safe and efficient manner, in accordance with statutory requirements and Covalent policies & procedures.
• Comply with all health and safety, environmental and regulatory policies relating to the project and ensure a safe working environment.
• Ensure all health, safety and environmental incidents are reported.

Financial/Budget

• Manage relevant budget and expenditure.
• Ensure compliance with budget and expenditure protocols and procedures.
• Create purchase orders and review invoices against scope of work.

Leadership and Team

• Ensure effective working relationships are built and maintained with other departments and stakeholders, both internal and external.
• Contribute as member of the Covalent Lithium team in establishing our desired organisation culture.
• Support and coach team members, managers and employees.

Role Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years' experience working in a health related field in the resources sector, ambulance services or primary health care, or an equivalent level of relevant qualifications, training and professional experience.
• Tertiary degree in Paramedicine or relevant field
• Registration with the Paramedicine Board of Australia and ability to meet the boards registration standards
• Authorised Drug and Alcohol Tester Certification
• Cert III Mines Rescue
• First Aid or Senior First Aid
• Full current drivers licence without restrictions
• Highly effective communication skills with the ability to engage with and clearly convey information to patients, healthcare professionals and other key stakeholders. In addition an ability to descalate and resolve conflict. 
• Experience in the development and training of site emergency response teams 
• Demonstrated resilience and ability to work effectively in high stress situations. 
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of an emergency response team. 
• A commitment to continuous improvement, workplace health, safety and wellbeing, and professional development
• Experience as a Paramedic in a mining or industrial setting (highly desirable)
• Cert IV in Training and Assessing (desirable)
