At Bamara, we are seeking a dedicated and empathetic ParentsNext Support Mentor to join our team in Cairns. As a vital member of the ParentsNext department within our Employment Services division, this is a permanent full-time position that offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of parents and their families. As a ParentsNext Support Mentor, you will be responsible for providing guidance, support, and encouragement to parents who are preparing to re-enter the workforce. Your main tasks will include:

  • Building strong rapport with clients and gaining an understanding of their individual circumstances and needs
  • Conducting comprehensive assessments to identify skills, barriers, and goals
  • Developing tailored plans in collaboration with clients to outline steps towards achieving employment and education goals
  • Providing ongoing support and mentoring to assist clients in overcoming challenges and accessing relevant services
  • Delivering group workshops on topics such as job readiness, communication skills, and personal development
  • Collaborating with external stakeholders including employers, training providers, and community organisations to create opportunities for clients
  • Maintaining accurate records of client interactions and progress towards goals
  • Adhering to program guidelines and reporting requirements

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with parents and provide support
  • Demonstrated ability to work empathetically with individuals from diverse backgrounds and circumstances
  • Strong organisational skills to manage caseloads efficiently and meet program requirements
  • Knowledge of local community resources and services to facilitate referrals for parents as needed
  • Experience in conducting assessments and developing tailored plans to assist parents in achieving their goals
  • Understanding of the challenges faced by parents re-entering the workforce or education, and the ability to provide practical guidance
  • Familiarity with relevant government policies and procedures related to employment services, particularly in the context of supporting parents
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation in line with program guidelines and data privacy regulations
  • Proven teamwork skills, collaborating with colleagues and external agencies to ensure holistic support for parents
  • Working with children blue card
  • Pass a police check
