The Opportunity -
Novaskill is currently partnered Descas Landscaping to offer multiple Parks & Gardens Apprenticeships around Shortland and the Upper Hunter, including on-the-job training with ongoing mentoring and support to help you start building your career.
We're looking for those looking to start their apprenticeship!
You'll be completing a nationally recognised Certificate III in Parks and Gardens whilst gaining experience & developing relationships in the Horticulture Industry.
Learnings –
- Identify plants and understand how best to tend to them
- Implement a plant nutrition program
- Use your keen eye to troubleshoot and report on plant health
- Conduct specialist transplanting, pruning and mowing operations
- Control weeds, plant pests, diseases and disorders
- Improve soil quality
Outcomes –
- Experience working on Parks and Gardens constructed or rejuvenated in an outdoor space
- The opportunity to visit botanic gardens, parks, campus surroundings or nurseries through excursions to support your learning
- The ability to conduct specialist pruning techniques on a range of vines, hedges and small trees
- The opportunity to become affiliated with the Australian Institute of Horticulture upon graduating
Apprenticeship Suitability Recommendations –
To succeed in this apprenticeship, we recommend you have –
- An interest in the natural environment
- Comfortability working outdoors, in different environments, terrains and in a range of weather conditions
- A reasonable level of fitness to use wheelbarrows, do repetitive lifting and be on your feet for long periods
- Literacy, numeracy and computer literacy at Year 10 level
About You –
- Demonstrated commitment to completing your study whilst balancing working
- Have time management, attention to detail, planning and organisational skills
- Willing to work hard and complete the job
- White Card is essential
- Manual Drivers Licence & Reliable Transport is desirable
- Experience is advantageous
