About the Position
We are seeking a suitably qualified and experienced person to work in the Horticultural Services Department as part of the Parks and Gardens team on a fixed term contract for 12 months. You will be responsible for the upkeep of the council's parks, gardens and other horticultural assets within the municipality.
- Maintain a range of parks and gardens using sound horticultural skills including but not exclusive to garden bed maintenance, grass maintenance, tree care, irrigation maintenance, path maintenance, tree planting, water features and pest and disease control.
- Operation and maintenance of horticultural plant and equipment including vehicles, ride-on mowers, small plant and pesticide spraying equipment.
- Working cooperatively with team members, stakeholders and contractors.
- Ensuring fulfillment of organisational obligations under the OHS Act and relevant council policies and procedures.
The successful candidate will have:
Highly motivated, friendly, approachable, flexible, team player, hardworking with a passion for horticulture and enjoys working in an ever-changing environment.
- Certificate III in Horticulture (Parks and Gardens) or substantial relevant experience
- Sound horticultural knowledge and skills
- Experienced in the use and basic maintenance of garden maintenance and grass cutting plant and equipment, such as ride-on mowers, hand mowers, brush cutters, hedgers and edgers
- Plant/weed identification skills
- Commitment to occupational health and safety and quality control processes
- Able to work to agreed targets within a team environment
- Able to accurately record and report on daily work programs
- Good customer service and communication skills
- Current manual Victorian drivers licence
- Medium Rigid Truck licence preferable
- Farm Chemical User Course desirable
