About Carers WA:

Carers WA is the peak body representing the needs and interests of carers in Western Australia and is part of a national network of Carers Associations providing a range of support services, supporting Carers across Western Australia. Carers provide unpaid care and support to family members and friends who have disability, mental health challenges, a chronic condition, terminal illness, an alcohol or other drug issue or who are frail aged.

About the role:

The role is responsible for organising, facilitating, and promoting time limited Coaching and IPPS groups that are carer led and carer driven, both in-line with Carer Gateway Carer Coaching and In-Person Peer Support (IPPS) guidelines. The Carer Gateway is an Australian Government initiative funded by the Department of Social Services providing a mix of free online, telephone and in-person supports, services and advice, for carers in Australia. These services have been specifically designed and tested by carers to help reduce stress and build resilience in the caring role.

  • In-Person Peer Support program: provides an opportunity for carers to meet and share their experiences, learn from one another, and develop networks to help support and connect with others in the carer community. The IPPS is based on four service delivery modules of: Connection, Finding Community, Making Meaning of Now and Finding Purpose.
  • Carer Coaching program: one-to-one coaching sessions with carers to empower them to take steps towards making positive changes and offers a reflective space to build resilience and capacity.

Flexibility in the position is also required, balancing outreach work, group work as well as phone and digital support for carers in the community.

While not essential, an understanding of carers issues and needs is desirable (e.g. lived experience).

Essential Selection Criteria:

  2. A relevant qualification (Cert IV Community Services, Diploma Social Sciences, Psychology, Social Work) and a minimum of 3 years of experience in the Community Services sector.

  7. High level of competency using computer software including Microsoft Office Suite, and/or customised client databases, as well as virtual communication modes (phone, skype, Zoom).
  8. Well-developed verbal and written communication skills in a community service or health-based context.
  9. Willingness to work flexibly including active participation in change management.
  10. Current C class Drivers Licence.
