About the role:
As the Peer worker/Psychosocial Recovery Coach, you will work as a member of a team to provide high quality recovery orientated support to our clients. Drawing on your lived experience of mental illness, you will help to instill confidence and empowerment in their journey of recovery.
This position will assist people to manage challenges and ensure consistent, sustainable delivery of services in order for people to live their best life. Your aim is to reduce barriers to implementing a person’s individualised plan and may require interaction with family, disability sector organisations, clinical staff and a range of Government departments such as Health, Communities and Justice.
This role will operate across 2 funded programs, the Youth Psychosocial Support Program (YPSP) and the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
*Please note this position is offered as a fixed term contract to align with funding program until 30th June 2025 (with possible extension).
Key responsibilities:
- Works collaboratively with participants, their families and their carers to draft, implement, and update person-centred recovery plans and safety plans and to engage physical, mental and emotional supports and services that facilitate sustained recovery.
- Provides individual, self-help, information and empowerment tools to participants and support them to strengthen community connection, citizenship and self-agency.
- Develops trusting and professional relationships that respect worker, consumer and carer boundaries.
- Works collaboratively with key stakeholders and participates in multi-disciplinary meetings.
- Adheres to PeopleKind conditions of employment; code of conduct; policies and procedures; and relevant legislation and standards.
- Demonstrates commitment to ongoing personal and professional development.
- Ensure all services provided comply with the current National Standards for Mental Health Services and National Disability Standards.
About you:
- Have lived experience of mental health, and/or drugs and alcohol and justice system.
- An understanding of mental health recovery.
- Previous experience supporting people with complex needs, particularly mental health, drugs and alcohol.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and proven ability to develop good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including participants, families, medical providers and interdisciplinary teams.
- Ability to engage with consumers and carers and maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Knowledge of the current National Standards for Mental Health Services and Disability Services and understanding of the rights, needs and requirements of people with a disability from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Desirable:
- Tertiary qualification in Peer Work or Mental Health (minimum of Certificate IV in Mental Health or Mental Health Peer Work) or equivalent training and experience.
- Experience with public or private mental health services.
You will also need:
- Must hold Australian citizenship or be a permanent resident of Australia.
- Proficient in the use of technology including email, the internet and Microsoft Office.
- Current Australian driver’s licence.
- Working Vehicle.
- NDIS Worker Screening Check.
- Working with Children Card.
