We are seeking an experienced Peer Workers with excellent communication skills, extensive knowledge of the mental health service system and an interest in service development and innovation to join the team as a Peer Navigator working the in EDAU.
This role is available in a part time capacity and there are two part-time roles available – 0.42FTE and 0.58FTE.

What you'll be doing

Provide high level speciality support for the management of consumers of the Emergency Department Assessment Unit (EDAU), ESMHS on Prince of Wales Hospital (POWH) Campus, to support the efficient and effective operation of the unit to achieve business and service objectives.
The position will draw upon their lived experience of mental health challenges and their personal recovery journey, to develop empathic relationships and support personal recovery, using recovery-oriented and trauma-informed principles in providing support for consumers of the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD).
The EDAU is a specialised Short Stay Unit co-located with the POWH Emergency Department for ED patients who require extended care for acute behavioural, toxicology and/or drug and alcohol-related presentations.
Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified for this position following suitable labour market testing.
All workers and new recruits are required to receive 2 doses of a Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccine to commence employment/ engagement or continue to work within a NSW Health service.
A worker and new recruit will be considered compliant if they have a medical contraindication to all available Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccines and provide medical contraindication evidence in line with the policy requirements.
In addition, all Category A workers and new recruits are required to receive one dose of the seasonal influenza vaccine annually to be considered compliant.
Category A workers and new recruits who are non-compliant with seasonal influenza vaccination or have a medical contraindication to influenza or COVID-19 vaccinations must comply with all other infection control risk reduction strategies as directed while working in a Category A position.

Selection Criteria: * Relevant qualifications in Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or relevant equivalent lived experience to support others in their own mental health recovery journey.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and appreciation of personal/lived experience as a consumer of Mental Health Services and demonstrated ability to utilise the lived experience to support others in their own mental health recovery journey in a Consumer Peer Worker Role.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team and actively contribute to clinical care planning processes in a team setting within allocated timeframe
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate with key stakeholders for the Peer workforce and consumer participation.
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to contribute to strategic service planning and policy development for the Peer workforce and consumer participation.
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible and adapt work practices to meet current and emerging business needs.
  • Current drivers’ licence or a willingness to travel in accordance with the demands of the position.
  • Demonstrated ability to determine priorities and manage tasks to achieve work objectives within the multidisciplinary team.
