About the role:
We are currently seeking a part-time Peer Support Worker to join our team in Emerald. Our Peer Support Worker will share the learnings and wisdom of a personal lived experience (mental health issue) to inspire hope for recovery. They will provide a distinct advantage in sharing openly and appropriately to build professional relationships with participants. They will develop groups to build personal connections and life skills and support people to restore, maintain and develop relationships.
What will a typical day look like?
- Effectively and appropriately hold crucial conversations with people who access our services to connect, support and build mutual understanding, trust, and shared experience.
- Develop groups to reduce social isolation and build capacity.
- Effectively support people who access our services to build their own hope.
- Effectively contribute to decreasing stigma and discrimination around having a lived experience of a mental health issue.
- Model personal recovery, self-awareness, self-belief, self-advocacy, and hopefulness by sharing your own story of recovery.
- Support the participant to make links to the community that meet their recovery wants and needs.
- Continue to support people who have entered the workforce and education.
Mandatory Requirements:
- Full COVID-19 Vaccination
- Certificate IV in Mental Health or Peer Support Certificate.
- Understanding of the Queensland Mental Health Act 2016, the National Disability Insurance Scheme Act 2013 as well as relevant laws and legislation.
- Ability to obtain a Blue Card (working with children check positive notice or exemption)
- Ability to obtain a Yellow Card (disability services positive notice or exemption notice)
