About the position
Integrated Recovery Service (IRS) is a free time limited service that supports people with complex and enduring mental health needs. The IRS Peer Worker will draw on their lived experience of recovery from mental illness to instill confidence and hope in others on their journey of recovery.Peer Workers support participants in GPH Mental Health Services by acting as a coach and mentor, attending appointments on site, in the community, on phone or via telehealth with participants, share and discuss common experiences with consumers to develop trust and rapport and be a point of contact and support for the consumer.
The Peer Worker will also participate in goal setting activities with the consumer promote self-pride and daily schedule, identify opportunities for consumers to learn and build self-esteem, provide encouragement and support to access supports, keep timely case notes and complete required documentation, participate in team meetings and case review meetings.
While the Peer Worker is the primary support person you will work collaboratively alongside partnered clinicians.
Based in our Bega hub this is a part-time position (22.5 hours per week) and is fixed term until 30 June 2025 with possibility of extension.

What you’ll need
Capacity to relate to people with a lived experience of suicidality and/or mental ill health from a perspective of having a ‘lived experience’ of suicidality and/or mental ill health.
Qualifications in mental health, community services or peer work (or a willingness to work towards same) or equivalent experience.
Comprehensive understanding of recovery and ability to communicate about personal lived experience.
Ability to establish relationships and maintain appropriate boundaries with people accessing the service and their families.
