About the Role

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people affected by homelessness and family violence? The Aspire Program is a pilot initiative dedicated to providing case management and support to young individuals facing these challenges.

We're looking for a Peer Support Worker to join our team. In this role, you'll collaborate with care teams and case workers, utilizing a strength-based approach to deliver safe and high-quality peer support to our participants.

As a Peer Support Worker, you will be integral to the development of the Aspire Program. You'll foster engagement and participation among young people, and you'll play a key role in program evaluation and reporting.

The key objectives of this role are:

  • Provide support to clients by sharing lessons learnt through your own lived experience to acknowledge that healing from homelessness and/or family violence is attainable.
  • Be guided to support the participants of The Aspire program, one on one, building rapport and trust, listening and validating experiences and feelings and, where appropriate, share their own experience and coping strategies.
  • Be guided to work within a trauma informed and strengths-based framework while honouring the lived experience of the client.
  • Support case workers in identifying risk through their interactions with the young people, as well as help to identify the young people’s natural network and supports. 
Vacancy Details
  • Part-time position working 38 hours per fortnight
  • Fixed term till 30 June 2025
  • $82,241 p/a (pro-rata) + super + salary packaging

About You
  • Lived experience of homelessness and/or family violence and demonstrated growth in building sustainable, constructive choices.
  • Experience of the housing and homelessness system within a community organisation setting.
  • Exposure to and an ability to gain a working knowledge of the Family Violence Multi-Agency Risk Assessment and Management (MARAM) Framework.
  • Skills in the ability to support clients to understand the Family Violence information Sharing Scheme (FVISS) and Child information Sharing Scheme (CISS).
  • Ability to build rapport built on trust and respect with the participants as well as key stakeholders and staff.
  • Willingness to undergo professional development and training to support the role.
