Petroleum Engineer

OPES International (OPES) is an independent Petroleum Engineering consultancy offering a wide range of Reservoir and Production Engineering services to the Oil & Gas Industry. Our expertise includes exploration, geology, reservoir engineering, field development planning and economic evaluation.

We are seeking a Petroleum Engineer to work with a team of specialists in our Perth office.  Reporting to the Engineering Manager the successful candidate will be assisting with the location of natural reservoirs of petroleum deposits and developing the most cost-effective and efficient methods of recovery, extraction and production of oil and gas from underground reservoirs together with developing new methods of extracting oil and gas from older reservoirs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To develop and optimize methods for extracting oil and gas from underground reservoirs.
  • Analyse data, conduct computer simulations, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to create drilling and production plans.
  • Generating computer-simulated models for drilling formation and equipment, ensuring and designing the best tools and equipment for extraction, and managing machinery and production costs.
  • Involved in budgeting, cost estimation, and project management.
  • Visiting drilling sites to supervise operations, resolve technical issues, and ensure that safety protocols are followed.
  • Working closely with drilling crews, geologists, and other experts to improve well performance and address any challenges that arise during drilling and production activities.
  • Determining the most efficient way to drill through internal divisions for a free-flowing single well.
  • Devising methods of controlling the flow of oil and gas from wells.
  • Developing and refining methods of extracting more petroleum from existing wells.
  • Overseeing the process of removing equipment, sealing the reservoir, and disposing of waste materials once the reservoir has been exhausted.

Qualifications and requirements:

·        Master’s degree in Petroleum Engineering from an internationally recognised institution.  An additional technical MSc obtained in Australia will be considered an advantage.

·        Significant experience in petroleum/reservoir engineering and simulation, demonstrating expertise across various clastic reservoirs (including gas, oil, oil rims, condensate, tight sand, unconventional reservoirs, CCUS, polymer flooding and miscible displacement with wet gas CO2).

·        Petrophysical analyses and mud chemistry experience will be considered an advantage.

·        Experience in the creation of IPSM as an expert or team member.

·        Proficient in Petroleum/Reservoir Engineering computer modelling using industry standard software and tools, i.e. t-Navigator, Intersect, Prosper, MBAL, GAP, Resolve, Eclipse.

·        An in-depth, creative knowledge of hydrocarbon extraction techniques and principles.

·        Good IT, research and survey skills.

·        Strong technical, analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills.

·        Good communication, interpersonal, and teamworking skills.

·        Currently residing in Perth, Western Australia with the ability to start immediately.
