Job description

ABOUT THE LEADERS INSTITUTE

The Leaders Institute of South Australia is a not-for-profit association that exists to deliver impactful leaders. True impact radiates beyond one or two people. It’s felt by strangers, businesses and the next generation. That’s the kind of impact the Leaders Institute empowers.  For 25 years we have been developing leaders by encouraging self-awareness and providing opportunities to understand the big picture and different perspectives.

Through our leadership development programs we help to create a powerful sense of connection between individuals, their organisations and the wider community. This develops leaders with an outward focus and strong collaboration skills, who understand that their greatest value is the impact they can have on the world around them.  Our patron is the Governor of South Australia, the Hon Frances Adamson, AC and we are supported by a strong board.

Our activities include:

  • Delivery of an innovative, high-quality suite of holistic development programs for aspiring leaders and leaders in all sectors of the community.
  • Delivery of alumni benefits (events, speakers, think tanks, exposure to leaders, supporting alumni to have impact in the community)
  • Advocacy for social inclusion and ethical leadership
  • Assisting community organisations to progress complex issues

The Leaders Institute has the support of a number of philanthropists which assist it to impact more individuals and communities through the delivery of leadership development programs.  We have recently received DGR1 status and would like to grow the support our endeavours receive from the philanthropic community.

About this role

We are looking for an experienced, energetic, versatile and adaptive person to grow philanthropic support for the Institute in order for us to be able to have a greater impact in the community.

Working collaboratively with the leadership team, the Philanthropy Manager is responsible for the planning and implementation of the Institute’s philanthropy function.

The Philanthropy Manager will be responsible for unearthing like-minded philanthropists, seeking to understand their priorities and, if they intersect with ours, work collaboratively with them and the team to progress initiatives for the greater good.

In this newly created role, you will contribute to making a tangible difference to the leadership of SA and its impacts upon the South Australian community for the better.

  • Proactive and effective at building strong relationships
  • Self-motivated and proactive, with a ‘can do’, solutions-focussed positive mindset
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent listening, negotiation, interpersonal and presentation skills
  • A critical thinker who operates strategically but is hands-on also
  • High integrity and strong personal and community values, with wide interests

Experience

  • Applications are encouraged from accomplished fundraising/donor relations professionals
  • Significant experience in developing, nurturing and growing stakeholder engagement and funding at both individual donor and organisational level.
  • Experience working in a member-based environment
  • Experience developing and implementing retention/engagement strategies to ensure partners/donors needs are understood and met
  • Experienced in working both independently and within a close team environment
  • It is desirable if the applicant has worked with DGR1 in the past

  • The role is part time with hours negotiable.  Whilst we are very flexible and work from home is encouraged, you do need to be able to be present in our Adelaide-office at least weekly to ensure team and work cohesion.
  • This is for an initial one-year contract with a three-month probation period.
