Job description

The Organisation

Spinal Cord Injuries Australia (SCIA) is a member-based, national, for purpose organisation that promotes independence and provides services to people with a spinal cord injury and other neurological disabilities. Working together with our clients, our mission is to eliminate barriers that prevent social inclusion for people with a spinal cord injury, neurological conditions and other physical disabilities; ensuring that the society in which we live is accessible in every way.  Our largest department at SCIA is NeuroMoves!

SCIA's NeuroMoves provides a suite of exercise services for people with a spinal cord injury, neurological conditions or other physical disability. NeuroMoves is a client centred, goal orientated Physiotherapy & Exercise Physiology service working in the outpatient and community -based rehab space that offers the opportunity for people to improve their functional capacity, acquire new skills, prevent secondary health complications, increase their independence and overall health, fitness and well-being in a welcoming and motivating environment.

NeuroMoves has several clinics across Australia with a team made up of 60+ Physiotherapists, Exercise Physiologists and Therapy Assists nationally. NeuroMoves offers state of the art facilities and access to specialized equipment and knowledge to facilitate recovery and provide suitable exercise & rehabilitation environments for all people with a neurological condition.

The Position
NeuroMoves by Spinal Cord Injuries Australia (SCIA) is excited to be recruiting for our newest casual Physiotherapist or Exercise Physiologist to work at our Lismore and Goonellabah clinics.

We are looking for a highly motivated, passionate and knowledgeable Physiotherapist who is already working in, or would like to transition into the neurological rehab space. We are looking for someone who values working in a for-purpose organisation, just like we do!

  • You will start off with an extensive and supportive induction and training program. You will work closely with a physiotherapy mentor and gradually build up to managing a caseload of clients, including working with clients with Spinal Cord Injuries, TBI, Stroke, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease, and other related diagnoses in a rehabilitation and disability setting.
  • A wide range of opportunities for project work and ongoing professional development both within the physio team and the wider multidisciplinary team, where you can grow your nonclinical skills.
  • Your day to day will become a well-balanced caseload to suit your learning goals and clinical interests.
  • You will provide a variety of Physiotherapy and Exercise Physiology interventions in the open gym clinic setting, through home and community visits, via telehealth and hydrotherapy.
  • You will be accountable to your intervention through goal setting and the use of outcome measures for your clients, underpinned by evidence based practice.
  • You will take a person centred approach, and advocate for your clients’ needs with various providers such as iCARE, NDIS and equipment suppliers.
  • As part of the national physio and EP team, you will have access to professional development including internal opportunities such as supervision, clinical mentoring, internal training and webinar sessions, as well as external professional development supported by a very generous PD budget.

We pride ourselves on supporting a ‘small team feel’ at each NeuroMoves site, whilst still having access to the perks of being part of a larger national organisation.

Remuneration will be matched to experience and whilst we are ideally seeking someone with 1 + years' experience, those with less experience are welcome to apply.

NDIS client experience is preferred, but not essential with on-the-job training and continued education opportunities available. A passion to learn, expand knowledge in a developing workspace and an ability to work in a multidisciplinary and diverse team are essential.

Why Join NeuroMoves?

  • Excellent Team Culture – we are a like-minded and growing team that works in the for-purpose, disability sector
  • Skilled Leadership – the management team have a multitude of experience working in the sector, and all have a strong passion for continued support for clients and clinicians alike
  • Continued Education – NeuroMoves boasts an excellent induction and training program as well as ongoing training & support provided to further develop neurological skills. Outstanding CPD program, with very generous time and budget allocations to internal and external PD.
  • Forefront of Neuro-rehab space - The opportunity to deliver a range of programs and utilise the latest specialised equipment and technology within the neurological rehabilitation space including FES devices and cycles & overhead harness systems for gait retraining. NeuroMoves offers a comprehensive education focus by supporting relationships with several universities, research groups, PhD’s, emerging technology and international affiliations.
  • For Purpose - backed by a for purpose organisation of spinal cord injuries Australia with the opportunity to grow skills in other areas to support persons with physical disability.
  • Flexible work - SCIA offers a flexible, inclusive and friendly work environment and an attractive remuneration package including PBI salary packaging options.

About you:

  • Experience in working as part of an allied health team, ideally in a rehabilitation or community-based setting.
  • Ideally 1 + years' experience, but not essential.
  • Exceptional written, administration, organisation and time management skills.
  • Ability to be involved in work of a highly physical nature.
  • Passionate about working with neurological populations.
  • Willing to learn and expand their knowledge set in the developing Neurological rehabilitation space.
  • Happy to work independently as part of a small team.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Current Physiotherapy registration with AHPRA or ESSA
  • A driver’s licence and full access to a vehicle
  • CPR + first Aid accreditation
  • Working with Children’s Check and National police Check
  • Experience and / or Knowledge of National Disability Insurance Scheme

SCIA has a dedicated, supportive and innovative culture and so we are looking for someone who will fit well into our team by having a positive attitude, strong relationship building skills and a passion for improving the circumstances of marginalised and disadvantaged people.

If you are interested in this rewarding and challenging opportunity, please submit a covering letter explaining your interest in this role and our organisation, and your CV / resume, by clicking on the "APPLY" button.  Please contact Sam Mitchell on 0403 091 *** or email *********@scia.org.au, if you have any queries regarding this role.

Applications will close on Wednesday 29th May 2024.

As part of our commitment to creating a flexible, diverse and inclusive workplace, this role is open to experienced candidates seeking workplace flexibility. We invite candidates of all ages, people with a disability and Indigenous Australians to apply.

The successful applicant will need to obtain a National Police Check, Working with Children Check clearance and National Disability Insurance Scheme Worker Check.
