Kimberley Mineral Sands Pty Ltd (KMS) is a 50/50 joint venture between Sheffield Resources Limited and YGH Australia Investment Pty Ltd (Yansteel). The Thunderbird Mineral Sands Project (Thunderbird) is located mid-way between Derby and Broome, in the Kimberley region of Western Australia.
Thunderbird is one of the largest and highest-grade zircon mineral sands deposits in the world and contains valuable heavy minerals including ilmenite, zircon, leucoxene, and rutile, which are extracted and exported via the Port of Broome.

About the Role
Residing in the West Kimberley and reporting to the Superintendent Metallurgy, this is an exciting opportunity for a Plant Metallurgist to join our growing mining company.
This role will be responsible for providing mentorship to operators as well as disseminating technical information to both the operational and maintenance teams to ensure the plant operates as effectively as possible.
Site based roster: 8 days on, 6 days off (Bus In Bus Out from Broome or Derby)
Key Responsibilities
- Design, update, and verify conformance to standard operating parameters
- Assist with metallurgical planning and forecasting tools utilised in production forecasts
- Complete and validate end of month accounting
- Drive radiation, dust and operational safety
- Adjust plant configurations to achieve product quality and recovery targets
- Conduct metallurgical surveys of the plant to identify recovery improvements
- Produce metallurgical models of the internal circuits of the plant based on surveys
- Complete root-cause analysis on processing problems
About You
- Tertiary qualification in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering or similar
- Current WA C-Class driver’s licence
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in mining or mineral processing at a similar level
- Experience in wet mining or wet processing plants
- Experience with the following physical separators would be advantageous: wet gravity and wet magnetic separation, hydro-cyclones and screening, flocculation (primary and secondary) and pumps (centrifugal and PDP)
