Job description

WorkSafe is Victoria's workplace health and safety regulator. We are also the workplace injury insurer. Our job is to reduce workplace harm and improve outcomes for injured workers. This is our promise to the Victorian community and the reason we exist.

  • $128,755 per annum + Superannuation
  • Full Time, Fixed term opportunities. 2 roles 12 months, 1 role to 30 May 2025
  • Based at Geelong Headquarters (Hybrid)

About the role

The Policy & Legislative Services Advisor will assist the Legislation, Policy and Information Services (LPIS) Division in formulating effective legislative and statutory solutions and authoritative advice working closely with the Senior Policy & Legislative Services Advisor. The role will assist in reviewing, analysing, advising, and development of policy and strategy in a range of contexts including strategic, economic, legislation, regulatory and operational.

The role has an important part to play in ensuring WorkSafe continues its work towards actively preventing workplace injuries and illness from occurring.

The Policy & Legislative Services Advisor will work across a broad range of subject matter areas including occupational health and safety and workers compensation and will work in a variety of settings including national, government, and stakeholder forums.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will be able to demonstrate a collaborative work style, an ability to build strong relationships with key Stakeholders and have an ability to anticipate and manage risks. You will have advanced written communication skills including the ability to explain complex or technical issues clearly and in a way that can easily be understood by a range of audiences. You will also possess:

  • Demonstrated high level written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills to build and manage internal and external networks and relationships
  • Demonstrated abilities to conduct thorough research and to think laterally and analytically
  • Experience in developing strategic economic or public policy, preferably in a Government environment
  • Experience in providing high quality and rigorous policy advice on a range of complex issues within limited time constraints
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills and the proven capability to meet strict timelines and to self-manage
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain trust and confidence with internal and external stakeholders and to effectively negotiate including experience influencing other
