Employment Type: Full time, 35 hours per week; Multiple positions available

Duration: 2 years fixed term  

Remuneration: Level A Academic $106,337- $113,737 (based on experience) + 17% super + annual leave loading

In the Infectious Diseases Dynamics and Interventions group (co-led by Professor James Wood & Scientia Lecturer Alexandra Hogan), we use infectious disease models to inform the design, implementation, and effectiveness of population health interventions, particularly vaccines and immunotherapeutics. We use a range of mathematical and statistical techniques, including differential equations, computational methods, stochastic processes, and optimisation theory. We are currently working on a program of research focussing on transmission models respiratory viruses such as COVID-19 and RSV and are seeking to expand our group to enhance our research capacity in this area.

The Post-Doctoral Fellow at the School of Public Health (SPH) will contribute to UNSW's research efforts, specializing in mathematical and statistical models of respiratory virus transmission.

Reporting to Professor James Wood & Scientia Lecturer Alexandra Hogan, they will engage in advancing research efforts at SPH, while adhering to academic standards and promoting a safe working environment.

Skills Required:

  • A PhD (or equivalent experience) in a highly quantitative discipline, featuring advanced skills in mathematics and statistics.
  • Proven ability to develop and apply skills in scientific computational modelling studies.
  • Demonstrated interest/experience in population health and observational science.
  • Demonstrated track record of first author peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations in English.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research with limited supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
  • Evidence of highly developed interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with a diverse range of stakeholders and students.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
