Requisition ID: REQ500758Sydney Local Health District (SLHD) is seeking a Post Graduate Fellow to join our team at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital!We are looking for a Post Graduate Fellow in Upper Gastrointestinal Tract Surgery. The primary purpose of the role of the Post Graduate Fellow in Upper Gastrointestinal Tract Surgery is to provide program of additional training to develop subspecialty interests in Upper Gastrointestinal Tract (GIT) Surgery, and to further develop core clinical skills required in this area. The Post Graduate Fellow will have completed advanced training to become a specialist medical practitioner in general surgery, or have completed specialist training in another discipline relevant to the Fellowship training program.The Post Graduate Fellow will provide high quality clinical care, diagnostic and consultative specialty services in Upper GIT Surgery at the level of a Post Graduate Fellow, and participate in teaching, research, quality improvement and administrative activities within the Upper GIT Department and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital as required. They will ensure high standards of professional performance and contribute to an academic environment which supports education, research and professional development.The Post Graduate Fellow in Upper GIT Surgery is responsible for the safe and efficient care of the patients under the care of the Upper GI Department. In this, the Fellow acts under the supervision of senior medical officers/Admitting Medical Officers, with a level of delegation that is set by them as appropriate to the stage of the professional development that has been reached by the Fellow.The Fellow is responsible for supervision of the junior registrars and interns, and for efficient, courteous and collaborative communication with the nursing staff and allied health members of the department. They are will usually be the first point of contact for other departments and other senior medical officers who wish to consult with the Upper GI Department about the care of their patients. In this role the Fellow will respond promptly, with early communication to the relevant Hepatobiliary and Upper GI Attending Medical Officers.The Fellow is responsible for the efficient organisation of the Department's clinical meetings and timely notification of patient lists to Radiology and Anatomical Pathology. The Fellow is responsible for ensuring that all operating theatre lists are accurate, complete and disseminated on time to the appropriate people.The successful applicant will be registered, or eligible for registration, with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), and Fellowship with Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (completion of advanced training in Upper Gastrointestinal Tract surgery/the Australia and New Zealand Training Board of Upper Gastrointestinal Tract Surgery), and/or other equivalent specialist recognition as provided for in the NSW Staff Specialists (State) Award.
