About the Role
This postdoctoral role, located within the Adaptive Optics Imaging Unit of the Department of Optometry and Vision Sciences, focuses on optical engineering and modifications to imaging apparatus for studying new tissue types and ultrafast processes in the human eye. Reporting to the Principal Investigator, Dr Phillip Bedggood, the incumbent will contribute to advancements in cellular processes in the living eye, with opportunities to extend research to clinical patient populations suffering from retinal diseases.
Your responsibilities will include:
Collaborate with Principal Investigators, Research Fellows, and Data Managers to focus on adaptive optics imaging of the human eye.
Contribute to the design and implementation of changes in optical imaging hardware, including illumination and imaging channels, system magnification adjustments, and integration of new scientific detectors and light sources.
Assist in the development of novel image processing software for precise eye motion tracking, studying phototransduction processes, and analysing pulse pressure wave propagation in the retinal vascular tree.
Perform alignment, calibration, and operation of high-resolution cellular imaging hardware, conduct statistical analysis of outcomes, and contribute to scientific publications.
Who We Are Looking For
You possess a high level of organisation and time management, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to adhere to written guidelines and study protocols. Your strong interpersonal skills, both written and verbal, along with your experience in optical design software, adaptive optics imaging, and familiarity with statistical software, position you well to contribute to innovative new research in the field.
You will also have:
A PhD in a related field such as ophthalmic optics, high-resolution imaging of the eye, image processing and analysis, or engineering.
Experience in the assembly, alignment, or calibration of optical imaging systems.
Experience and proficiency in acquiring and processing high-resolution image data.
Experience with programming software, especially Matlab and Python.
Demonstrated experience publishing research in peer-reviewed scientific literature.
