About the Role:

The Parenting Assessment and Skill Development Service (PASDS) Practitioner of the Family Preservation Team provides comprehensive assessment of parenting capacity and intensive skill development to families with high-risk infants/ toddlers, aged 0-3 years targeted at meeting the developmental needs of vulnerable infants.

The role focuses on providing assessment, support and skills development to families referred through DHHS Child Protection. The programs provide an evidence informed assessment of parents' capacity to parent in both in- home and residential settings focusing on maximising parents' opportunities to develop parenting skills to facilitate positive parent and child interaction. Delivery of service occurs primarily through ongoing implementation, review, and progress assessment of the needs of the customer to deliver evidence- informed best practice programs and services as directed by the Victorian Leadership Team in line with Baptcare strategic objectives for the Family and Children’s Services teams in Victoria.

Essential Skills:

  • Tertiary Qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, or other relevant Human Services qualification and/or experience.
  • Ability to work autonomously.
  • Confident communication skills, in written and verbal English, highly impactful influencing, negotiation, persuasion and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to adjust to meet the changing situations and needs of the client group whilst maintaining focus on delivery and follow-through.
  • Excellent skills in organisation and time management.
  • Sound stakeholder management and the ability to build and maintain strong, credible relationships with relevant stakeholders.
  • Strong computer skills and use of full suite of Microsoft office.

Knowledge:

  • Demonstrated evidence informed family assessment skills in working with vulnerable children and families with complex issues.
  • Demonstrated evidence informed knowledge and application of therapeutic models and theories to develop skill- based interventions that enable positive change.
  • Demonstrated evidence informed knowledge and understanding of child development, trauma, family and child/risk assessment skills.
  • Knowledge of and experience working within a funding environment.
  • A demonstrated understanding of the complexity of the child protection, flexible funding interventions, out of home care and the family support systems and the issues involved in providing services to statutory clients.
  • Demonstrated level of self-awareness and resilience and the ability to manage multiple demands and prioritise accordingly.
