The Preventive Health Conunsellor will contribute to the effective operation of Quitline, Way to Wellness, and other Preventive Health services by providing telephone counselling, information, referral, and advice to people who contact, or are referred to, services that promote behavioural change.

The HCC operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week delivering confidential telephone assessment and information services to the people of Queensland. The HCC strives to educate and empower people to make informed choices about their health and health care, promoting better health through the delivery of evidence-based clinical practice.
Your Key Responsibilities:
- Provide tailored telephone interventions, including assessment, information, advice, counselling, referral and consultancy to service consumers utilising ethical and best practice standards and policies.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of contemporary standards and practice in the treatment of nicotine dependence, including thorough understanding regarding pharmacotherapy options.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of modifiable lifestyle risk factors to support service consumers to optimise their health and wellbeing.
- Use contemporary best practice behaviour change and relapse prevention models, including elements of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Motivational Interviewing, to increase clients' ability, confidence and readiness for change.
- Collaboratively work with clients to develop tailored goals and actions regarding changes to health behaviours.
- Provide resources to individual clients and agencies across Queensland via mail, email, and text message.
- Contribute to the maintenance of accurate and up-to-date reference information to ensure the provision of accurate information to callers.
- Maintain and improve professional skills and clinical knowledge of current issues, new resources and products, through participation in on-going professional development and through identifying and pursuing learning opportunities.
