We are seeking a teacher for years 5 or 6, in our Italian / English Bilingual school. This is a rare opportunity to be able to deliver the Australian Curriculum in both Italian and English.

About us

Join a leading learning organisation where you matter, working with experienced and supportive school leaders. By teaching in the growing ACT public school system, you will make a real difference to the lives of the young people of Canberra. In 2024, we opened our 91st school in a system which delivers excellent, inclusive and equitable outcomes for very child and young person. We value educators who are enthusiastic, innovative and willing to engage and nurture curiosity and creativity.

Our system offers nation-leading public pay and conditions and a better classification structure that supports school leaders, new educators, and experienced teachers. If you’re contracted for 12 months or more, we’ll assist with your relocation expenses (up to $12k).

Experienced teacher salaries for 2024 range from $101,477 to $119,288, while graduate teacher salaries start at $84,978.

Benefits of working in ACT public schools:

  • 4 staff development days a year (student free), held at the beginning of each term.
  • A New Educator Support Program to set new educators up for success.
  • The right to disconnect outside of work hours and enjoy a better work/life balance in a progressive, diverse and inclusive city.

  • Demonstrate an ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team environment with like-minded educators who have a passion for teaching and their specialisation.
  • Have strong classroom management skills enabling a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

About your new school

Yarralumla Primary School is located in a leafy, tranquil setting in inner-suburban Yarralumla, about 3 kilometres from the centre of Canberra and nestled on the banks of the iconic Lake Burley Griffin It is a community-focused, neighbourhood school which caters for children from ages 3 to 12. The strength of the school lies in the close partnership between students, staff and parents and the wider community.

Yarralumla Primary School is the only Italian/English Bilingual school in the Australia Capital Territory. Its bilingual program has been operating since 2009 and its reputation and popularity has blossomed over the years, growing from 35 to nearly 400 students across  Kindergarten to Year 6. The program is taught using the Content Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) pedagogy where K-6 children learn half of the Australian Curriculum in the Italian language.. Research, including student assessment, reveals that students in bilingual settings enjoy cognitive advantages, excellent social understandings, and personal fulfillment.
