Pakenham North West Primary School (interim name) is seeking a dynamic and accomplished Assistant Principal to join our team for our new school opening in 2025. Pakenham North West Primary School (interim name) is in the Eastern suburbs within the vibrant Pakenham community. It is being built as part of the Victorian Government's commitment to deliver 100 new schools between 2019 and 2026. This school is set to welcome students on the first day of term 1, 2025.  It is situated at 15 Kennedy Road, Pakenham, with a capacity to accommodate 525 students.

Pakenham North West Primary School features landscaped grounds and recreational spaces, including a sports field, and hard courts, alongside a community hub.  We will prioritise equipping our students with the vital skills needed to cultivate positive social interactions, teamwork, and effective learning. Within our structured, supportive, and inspiring educational setting, we will strive to nurture holistic development.

In partnership with our supportive community, we will develop a culture that reflects our five values: REACH - Respect, Excellence, Adaptability, Courage, and Harmony. A kindergarten next door to the school, facilitates a seamless transition for local pre schoolers, easing drop-off logistics for parents with both kindergarten and school-aged children.

Role

The assistant principal reports directly to the principal.

Assistant principals have a primary responsibility for the management of significant areas or functions within the school to ensure the effective development, provision and evaluation of the school's education program.  In exercising the responsibility, assistant principals will have the authority to make all significant decisions relating to the program, budget and staff relating to their area of designated responsibility within the framework of the school's strategic plan, policies and budget.  Assistant principals will contribute to the overall management of the school through involvement in policy formulation and decision making.

The management of significant school program or functional areas in schools involve assistant principals in the analysis of the needs of students and the translation of state educational policy and frameworks into appropriate education programs to meet the needs of all students.

Typically assistant principals will be responsible for the effective use of the teaching staff and program budget of a defined area of the school's operation and for the oversight and leadership of the educational programs provided utilising these resources.

Responsibilities

Typically, assistant principals perform one or more of the following functions:

  •    supervision and coordination of the work of senior curriculum or level coordinators;
  •    allocation of budgets, positions of responsibility and other resources within the area of responsibility;
  •    supervision of the delivery of teaching programs;
  •    management of programs to improve the knowledge and experience of staff;
  •    responsibility for general discipline matters beyond the management of classroom teachers and year level coordinators;
  •    contribute to the overall management of the school;
Who May Apply

Appropriately qualified individuals currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching.

Other Information

The Foundation Assistant Principal role:

We seek an inspired person to integrate into our growing team. This person must have strong leadership qualities, be motivated, and dedicated to assist the Principal with the setting up of a new school. The chosen candidate will join the Foundation Leadership Team, implementing protocols and frameworks throughout the school, playing a pivotal role in shaping the processes and procedures of our new school.

The role of the Foundation Assistant Principal will include:

- Collaborating closely with the Principal to engage with the community as needed to make pivotal decisions for the establishment of the new school.

- Cultivating a school-wide ethos of excellence and inclusivity, integral to the educational philosophy of our emerging school.

- Crafting a vision for learning and formulating a pedagogical framework that optimises the opportunities.

- Designing a comprehensive school curriculum and organisational structures that align with the school¿s vision and values, emphasising excellence and inclusion.

- Recruiting and appointing personnel possessing the expertise, competencies, and mindset necessary to realise the school¿s vision of excellence.

- Offering appropriate support to staff members.

- Actively engaging with the local community to help develop procedures and systems that lay the groundwork for the new school to serve as a community-centered hub.  This fosters connections among families, providing learning opportunities, and nurtures a vibrant, supportive community.

- Developing a strategic approach to staff professional development.

- Collaborating with the Principal to select furniture, ICT resources that align with the school¿s learning vision and ensure that the design principles of the learning spaces cater to the needs of all students.

- Collaborating with the Principal to establish financial and IT systems in accordance with Department and school council requirements.

- Undertaking additional responsibilities as necessary.

Please note: The successful candidate may be required to work for short periods during school holidays (including January, 2025).

VIT LANTITE

To be eligible for employment, transfer or promotion in the principal or teacher class a person must have provisional or full registration from the Victorian Institute of Teaching. In addition, from 3 August 2020, to be eligible for employment in the principal class or teacher class, a person who graduated from a Victorian Initial Teacher Education program after 1 July 2016, must demonstrate that they have passed the literacy and numeracy test for initial teacher education (LANTITE) requirements. This condition is satisfied where the LANTITE requirement is part of the Victorian Initial Teacher Education program completed by the person.
