Currently, there is an exciting full-time opportunity to join our team in Warragul as a Principal Civil Engineer.
We are looking for a Principal Civil Engineer to support the achievement of KLM Spatial’s goals by having an active role in managing the Engineering Team’s projects and assisting the Engineering Manager.

- Act as the design lead on projects and overseeing all aspects of the project including, resource planning and invoicing.
- Prepare high quality designs and providing technical engineering advice that meet KLM Spatial’s and our clients’ expectations.
- Establish and communicate the scope and expectations of the project from a technical, timing, and hours of effort perspective.
- Pre-planning, determination of objectives and gathering data via research.
- Consolidation of data, including consideration of options and constraints.
- Preparation and self-checking of conceptual and functional design.
- Prepare and check detailed civil designs.
- Review, evaluate and check design and documentation in accordance with KLM Spatial’s QA procedures and relevant authority standards.
- Review Preparation of Schedule of Quantities.
- Act as discipline lead (design) on projects and oversee invoicing, resource planning and project control of those work packages.
- Accountable for the project design team in projects.
- Contribute to ongoing continuous improvement in processes and systems where appropriate.
- Other duties which may extend to other departments as required.
- Quoting/Tendering/Pricing fee proposals for new projects
- Cost estimating, early concept and master planning advice.
- Manage projects and coordinate completion to satisfy customer requirements including dates of completion and budgeted hours.
- Drive collaboration of the project team to ensure the input of all team members is managed in a co-ordinated manner.
- Together with the Design Group Manager perform Pre-planning, determination of objectives and gathering data via research and asking questions both internally and externally.
- Compilation, assessment of and approving monthly accounts for projects managed, this includes personal effort expended and that by design group & construction/contract group.
- Review and evaluate designs to validate compliance with client, internal departments, Regulatory & Referral authority objectives
- Business development (Marketing of KLMS)
- Ensure all activities are carried out in accordance with Company’s Guidelines, Mission and Value Statements.
What you’ll bring to the role:
- Bachelor of Engineering
- Member Institute of Engineers Australia
- 10 years min experience in engineering positions
- Strong knowledge of relevant design standards and authority expectations for subdivision engineering practices in metropolitan Melbourne and Regional Victoria
Working knowledge of the following:
- 12D
- Auto-cad
- PCdrain
- Hecras
- MS Project
