Mandatory Requirements:
- One of the referees should be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, where possible, who can attest to the applicant's background, knowledge, skills, and experience as they relate to the cultural capabilities
- Travel within the region for site visits and to other regional offices will be required in this role. This will include overnight stays
- Drivers' license: it is a mandatory requirement for the occupant of this position to hold an unrestricted "c" class driver's licence as officers are required to drive government vehicles as a part of their day-to-day work.
- Formal tertiary qualifications are not mandatory but relevant human services and management qualifications would be an advantage.
As Principal Community Services Officer, you will specifically:
- Support the establishment and operation of high level, strategic multi-agency responses across the North Queensland region, including the coordination of service delivery in watchhouses.
- Develop and lead a strong, integrated multi-agency service system in collaboration with non-government funded and unfunded provider/s, and relevant government agencies at a local level, and conduct planning activities, and outcome monitoring and evaluation, to identify potential challenges and enhance service delivery.
- Provide practice leadership and support service centres to reduce offending behaviours of high-risk young people, through monitoring and improving service responses, providing coaching to staff and providing advice and support in all service centre activities as required.
- Represent youth justice and/or the region at regional consultation forums, committees or working groups as required.
- Promote learning and information sharing in relation to services, networks and referral pathways within the community, through site mentoring, delivery of learning and development opportunities, and via the preparation of a range of high-quality communication materials.
- Provide leadership in the implementation and maintenance of strategies that facilitate and sustain the formation of partnerships between the department and key stakeholders within the region and at a local level.
- Enhance the local regional community by actively practicing and promoting excellence in service delivery and public administration and identifying opportunities for improving regional client service.
- Establish and maintain effective communication with key stakeholders.
- Provide supervision, training, support and mentoring to nominated staff and students across the region, including managing student placements and caseworker onboarding as required.
- Facilitate the effective engagement in the partnership of people, communities, and organisations from Indigenous and culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
Role specific/technical skills:
- You demonstrate advanced cultural capability and can recognise and articulate the interests of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. You have the capacity to consult and negotiate according to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander protocols in the community you work in and understand the historical and contemporary issues that impact both cultures.
- You will also demonstrate advanced knowledge of working with young people from diverse backgrounds including other cultural groups.
