About the Organisation:

Rockhampton Children and Family Centre (CFC) was established in 2013 when a vital need was identified to support Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children Birth to 8 years and their families within the Rockhampton Community. The centre is funded by the Queensland Government, Department of Education for Early Childhood and Education Improvement.

The Rockhampton Children and Family Centre provide comprehensive, locally responsive and connected services that support child and parent/carer wellbeing, enhance positive child learning and development and build parenting capacity.

About the Role:

BCHS- Rockhampton Children Family Centre are currently seeking a proactive, energetic, and professional Family Engagement Officer. The position is to be filled on a part-time permanent basis for 30 hours per week. The role will be primarily based at our Rockhampton Children and Family Centre – Cnr Bawden and Charles Street, North Rockhampton QLD 4701, but may require travel to other Bidgerdii work sites, as required.

the Family Engagement Officer is to assist with delivering the Connected Beginnings project. It works with the Program Coordinator and other program staff to carry out the Connected Beginnings project objectives to ensure positive early years learning outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families in Rockhampton.

Duties may include but not limited to:

  • Coordinate, support, and engage in outreach and in-home integrated service delivery to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families within the Rockhampton Community.
  • Distribute/promote child development, learning, and wellbeing/health (non-clinical) information/projects and materials to families that increase school readiness and learning outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children. Including the First 1000 days and transition to school programs.
  • Provide a presence, actively contribute, and promote community events/programs that increase educational and development outcomes and school readiness for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children
  • Provide administrative support in a timely manner, including but not limited to minute-taking, photocopying, preparing letters, answering calls, and other general administrative duties.
  • Maintain and enhance positive and effective relationships with all current and potential project stakeholders, including referral agencies and government departments.

Minimum Requirements of the role:

  • Certificate III or above in a relevant qualification (e.g., Certificate IV Primary Health Care, Children’s Services, Community Support, or child youth and family intervention would be highly regarded) or willing to obtain.
  • Previous work experience in a similar community support and/or child-focus program would be highly regarded.
  • High-level knowledge and experience in using computers and office software, particularly Microsoft Office Suite, and a willingness to learn and use other software packages.
  • Ability to verbally communicate effectively with individuals and groups. Cultural awareness, sensitivity, and appropriateness are fundamental to this role. The role will also require identifying areas of possible conflict and informing the Community Relations Coordinator of such.
  • Ability to work with individuals and within a team environment to achieve specific outcomes. The incumbent will be required to work with education professionals, community councils, and other like organisations to link these services together to achieve goals identified and set by the community.
  • Excellent written and communications skills and the ability to assist with the community development planning framework and evaluation.
  • A basic understanding of child development and community issues is essential, along with willingness to be a role model for the community and be trained in brief health interventions, community capacity building and attend ongoing personal development opportunities.

Practical Requirements:

  • Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD) – essential
  • Immunisation requirements – It is a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against the following vaccine-preventable diseases: measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, hepatitis B, hepatitis A, and pertussis (whooping cough) during their employment
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certificate
  • Current Blue Card - essential
  • Satisfactory Police Check – essential
