PERTH OFFICE

South32's corporate office is based in the heart of Perth's CBD. The corporate office houses key functions, including HR, Legal and External Affairs, Finance, Corporate Development, Investor Relations, Group Risk, and Technical. Our office is conveniently located a 5-minute walk from the Perth Underground Train Station, and has end of trip facilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

This role will preferably be based at our office in Perth however Brisbane and Wollongong will be considered for the ideal candidate. We understand and value the benefits flexibility brings and operate a hybrid work model (in the office and from home)

As the Principal Concept Studies, you lead an integrated study team exploring the dimensions of the early phase investment opportunities at South32's GEMCO, Illawarra Coal, Cannington and African operations. The role requires a high-level and well-developed application of study and project practices and involves a high degree of interaction and coordination with related projects.

Reporting to the Lead Principal Studies, other key responsibilities include, but aren't limited to:

• Responsible for the planning, execution and delivery of assigned Concept Studies, objectively, efficiently, and effectively exploring the business case of potential investment opportunities
• Health, safety and environment compliance and outcomes for assigned studies
• Development of comprehensive commercially relevant business cases evaluating investment opportunities
• Compliance with reporting and approval governance requirements
• Responsible for the development of budgets and schedules for assigned studies
• Cultivate positive relationships with members of the operations planning, analysis and improvement teams, and also with specific stakeholders and external service providers

ABOUT YOU

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:

• Experience in the delivery of Concept Studies within the mining or heavy industry or relevant alternative experience
• Ten years experience in consulting, mining and earth science, extractive industry or manufacturing, particularly in the areas of strategic planning, development and reporting
• Broad exposure to operating facilities and process plants or other major industrial undertakings
• Exposure or experience in underground metalliferous and/or coal mining
• Experience in working with diverse stakeholder groups
• Well-developed oral and written communication skills; able to communicate at all organisational levels.

Qualifications for this position are:

• Relevant degree and extensive demonstrated experience (Geoscience, Mining, Metallurgy, Engineering, Chemistry, Business or related)
• Project management or equivalent qualifications would be beneficial.
