Tasmania Prison Service (TPS) has prison facilities located at Risdon Vale, Hobart, and Launceston. This position is based at Risdon Vale in the TPS People and Culture Unit, located in the Training Building. In this role, you may be required to attend the Hobart city office or other sites for full or part days. Please discuss what this might look like for you with the contact officer.The Risdon Vale site offers a corporate working environment without the hustle and bustle of city centre offices, free on-site parking and access to the on-site staff gym (or head across the road to Risdon Brook Dam for a walk). The Training Building has an attached outdoor area where we can enjoy our lunchtimes... weather permitting! We are a short drive to local shops and services, however there is no need to worry about parking when you return as there is plenty (and did we mention it's free!?).The TPS People and Culture Unit encompasses recruiting, training, rosters, Absence Management and general human resources support for the TPS. We are a small team and work closely and collaboratively with the Department of Justice's central human resources team, and other Outputs.Period of AppointmentPermanent from as soon as possible.This role is newly funded and will lead two Absence Management Administrators to support the TPS' implementation of a broad range of recommendations from a recent audit, address historical matters and maintain a high performing and resourced Absence Management unit. This position will provide high level, expertise and authoritative advice to senior management, resolve complex and sensitive Leave and Absence Management matters, and work collaboratively with Department HR staff.*Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar permanent, fixed-term, full time, part time and/or casual vacancies.Hours per fortnight73.50 hours per fortnight - flexible options available.This is day work position working weekdays. Starting salary negotiable within this range subject to experience in a similar role. Annual salary increase within this range in accordance with the Tasmanian State Service Award and Public Service Union Wages Agreement.In addition to the salary:

Duties
  • Develop and implement formal guidance documentation and reporting mechanism for the monitoring of absences.
  • Review, develop and implement policies and procedures relating to leave management within the TPS.
  • Undertake the case management of complex employee absence related matters within the legislative and employee policy framework.
  • Undertake research and investigations into complex issues and prepare correspondence, reports, formal responses, briefing notes and recommendations as appropriate.
  • Conduct training and coaching of managers in relation to Leave and Absence Management.
  • Build and manage effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including senior management, consultative committees and unions and work collaboratively with stakeholders to resolve issues.
  • Establish a mechanism for investigating and analysing absence information and providing reports and recommending actions.
