About the opportunity
As a Principal Engineer within the System Analysis and Modelling team, you'll be responsible for undertaking a specialist role in power systems modelling, electrical data & software management, technical specifications studies, and system performance analysis including power quality assessments for new generator connections.
You'll be an industry specialist in power system modelling & analysis who can provide specialist advice on high voltage transmission system models developments, technical specifications studies, and system performance, and power quality analysis for Transgrid's network.
You will represent the Network Planning group within industry in power system modelling and power quality assessments, and will develop specialist technical reports or presentations for internal and external stakeholders. This role also encompasses the development and implementation of modelling & analysis strategies and plans for longer term network models developments and works closely with industry stakeholders and figureheads Transgrid at technical conferences.
About you
- Strong experience in power system and transmission planning.
- Solid experience in the analysis and development of electricity transmission systems and modelling of renewable energy generators, batteries, and synchronous machines, including expert in the use of PSCAD, PSSE and other software packages.
- Extensive experience with programming languages such as Python.
- Good understanding of synchronous and asynchronous generators operation and control.
- Strong understanding of power quality assessments and small signal modelling.
- Well-developed analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving skills and an interest in strategic and commercial aspects of delivering new technologies into the electricity system.
- A creative and collaborative approach - eager to guide the planning of ‘the electricity system of the future.
