About this opportunity:
As Principal Internal Auditor at Mackay Regional Council, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the efficiency and integrity of our operations. Working closely with the CEO, your key responsibilities will involve:
- Perform independent audits across various departments and programs within the local government.
- Evaluate compliance with regulations and policies, scrutinise financial data, and identify potential irregularities or discrepancies.
- Identify financial and operational risks, and pinpoint opportunities for improving operational efficiency.
- Create risk-based audit plans and strategies for the effective prioritisation and execution of audit activities.
- Produce thorough audit reports, collaborate with management to implement improvements, and enhance our accountability and financial management practices.
- Keep up-to-date with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards to maintain compliance and ensure audit excellence.
Essential Qualifications, Experience & Skills:
- Bachelor of Business/Commerce/Accounting or related qualification.
- QLD "C" Class Drivers Licence or interstate equivalent (desirable)
- Significant experience in internal and/or external audit.
- Significant exposure to modern internal audit concepts, techniques, and the standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing.
- Substantial experience developing and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Extensive experience maintaining independence, professional standards, and objectivity in completing assigned tasks.

Salary & Employee Benefits:
- Base annual salary from $107,820
- Up to 18% superannuation (conditions apply)
