An esteemed government authority dedicated to improving Victoria's infrastructure is seeking a Principal Lawyer specialising in Public Law. This role is aimed at enhancing the safety and efficiency of Victoria's transport network. The Commercial and Legal Division plays a critical role in navigating the complex legal landscape associated with this transformative project.
Your new role
As the Principal Lawyer for Public Law, you will be pivotal in managing and coordinating all public legal and regulatory matters. Your responsibilities will include:
- Overseeing Public Law matters, including Freedom of Information requests, privacy issues, administrative law, and government investigations.
- Providing strategic guidance on regulatory compliance framework.
- Managing Freedom of Information and Privacy matters, ensuring strategic oversight and stakeholder engagement.
- Developing relationships with key stakeholders such as the Office of the Director-General, Ministerial Offices, and regulatory bodies.
- Leading the response to enquiries from external regulatory bodies like the Victorian Ombudsman and Victorian Auditor General’s Office.
- Ensuring accurate record-keeping for FOI, privacy, and regulatory compliance activities.
- Offering expert legal advice on Public Law litigation and overseeing the project's legal delegations.
- Being a role model in collaboration and ethical conduct, in line with public sector values.
What you'll need to succeed
Your success in this role will be underpinned by:
- Admission to the Australian legal profession, with a strong background in Public Law.
- Demonstrated experience in providing legal advice on complex and sensitive Public Law issues.
- In-depth knowledge of FOI Act 1982 (Vic) and experience in FOI law and Victorian Government FOI policy.
- Familiarity with infrastructure-related legislation and Victorian government processes.
- Proven leadership in problem-solving, strategic thinking, and effective communication.
