About the Role

Reporting to the Director, Legal Services - Assistant General Counsel, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the legal team's provision of innovative, solutions-focused and strategic legal advice in managing a wide array of interesting and complex matters across a broad range of practice areas.

You will be a leader in the team, ensuring that the legal services provided are high-quality and practical. You will also be at the helm of continuous improvement initiatives, driving the delivery of best practice legal and governance services whilst remaining committed to innovative and new ways of achieving positive outcomes.

You will also play a leading role in ensuring that our legal strategies align seamlessly with ST Vic's corporate plan and its commitment to serving the community.

The responsibilities of the Managing Principal Lawyer will include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading and overseeing the consistent delivery of practical, strategic, and high-quality legal advice on a diverse range of matters, encompassing general operational advice, administrative law, commercial and contract law, statutory interpretation, workplace relations, litigation, FOI, privacy, and governance.
  • Providing authoritative direction and advice on a broad range of legal and governance matters, ensuring it is practical, solutions-focused and aligned with ST Vic's strategic focus.
  • Providing effective leadership and people management to the Legal branch to support it on its journey to becoming a modern and contemporary team that embraces technology and a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Preparing and presenting briefing papers to senior management to inform operational and strategic decision making, including analysis of legal risks and opportunities.
  • Collaborating across the business on strategic initiatives and projects, providing legal advice and expertise and inspiring high levels of trust and confidence and a robust quality and compliance culture.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective partnerships with relevant internal and external stakeholders to support effective operational and strategic decision making.
  • Promoting and supporting safe, inclusive, and flexible team operations.

Qualifications

A relevant degree in law and a current Victorian legal practicing certificate.
