Position Information

Uralla Central School, situated 25km from Armidale in the New England region of NSW, is a proudly public, rural and coeducational school catering for students from K-12. The school is structured into a Junior School (K-4), Middle School (6-8) and a Senior School (9-12).  The school has a compressed curriculum model for Stage 6 which broadens and strengthens school curriculum implementation.

Public education has played a role in the Uralla community since 1862. The school has approximately 260 students including 35% Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

Uralla Central School provides a quality education that offers inclusive, relevant and integrated curriculum; high quality educational programs across the full range of academic ability; a range of Vocational Education Training (VET) opportunities; and quality creative and performing arts, sporting and personal development programs. The school has recently launched their Reconciliation Action Plan to ensure all students have opportunities to develop deeper understandings of Aboriginal histories, cultures and languages.

Current school initiatives are to Monitor and Support Student Progress and Achievement, Quality Teaching Rounds, Community Engagement, Student Wellbeing and Contemporary Learning Environments. Staff work collaboratively in Professional Learning Teams covering the K-12 progression and all subject areas. Classroom teachers work across Junior, Middle and Senior schools individually and in teaching teams. Whole school organisation focuses on meeting the needs of all students.  As a school community we expect everyone to 'Stand tall and walk proud.'

The school is well-resourced, including extensive agricultural facilities, a designated commercial kitchen and outdoor learning areas. The school has an active P and C.

Selection Criteria

In addition to the general selection criteria,

Demonstrated ability to provide strategic, innovative leadership of school improvement through highly effective school planning processes, understanding of Department policies and systems that are underpinned by strong evaluative practices, collaborative planning, evidence-informed decision making and effective consultation processes to drive improvement, equity, and educational excellence.

Demonstrated capacity to provide instructional leadership that inspires and builds the capacity of teachers and leaders, ensuring a sustained focus on implementing evidence-based pedagogy to support improved student progress and performance in literacy and numeracy.

A highly visible, approachable leader with exemplary interpersonal skills and the proven capacity to work collaboratively to form positive, productive, welcoming relationships with all community members and parents so the educational and wellbeing outcomes of all students are prioritised.

 

 

General Selection Criteria

1. High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education

2. Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs

3. High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community

4. Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning

5. Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning

6. Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policies and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people

Conditions

If you have not held a substantive principal position in a NSW Public School at any time in the past five (5) years, you need to have completed the NSW Public School Leadership and Management Credential to be eligible to apply, and you will need to attach a copy of your provisional credential certificate or final credential certificate as part of your application.

  An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.    Special Notes

The Crown Employees (Teachers in Schools and Related Employees) Salaries and Conditions Award 2020 details the new principal classification structure based on complexity of schools which commenced in 2016.  The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school’s RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is Principal Level P3 for 2024 and also for 2025.

 Applicants are to include details of their WWCC clearance number as part of this application.
