Our client are a well known NSW government department focused on bringing together specialists in urban and regional planning, natural resources, industry, environment, heritage, Aboriginal and Social Housing, and Crown lands and water. They are now in need of a Principal Planning Officer to come in and work with their team in Parramatta on a contract basis until 31/03/2024.
Candidates for this position must have a Degree in planning, environmental management, engineering or other relevant discipline, coupled with Demonstrated high level knowledge of relevant environmental assessment and planning legislation and processes.
In this role you will a lead role in the assessment and delivery of complex major statutory and strategic planning and key development projects within State significant sites to meet statutory obligations and Government policy objectives. A further key component of the role is to drive best practice and innovative processes to meet Government goals for a more robust and efficient state planning system that achieves regional planning and strategic infrastructure, economic and growth objectives.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Manage the delivery of competing statutory and strategic planning and project outcomes in a high pressure environment whilst managing the different and competing interests of various external agencies, stakeholder and community expectations.
- Assess the merits of planning proposals to ensure the assessment and delivery of projects are within the relevant benchmark period.
- Produce high quality work on the preparation of well written reports, strategic advice and effective conditions in Gateway determinations.
- Build and maintain effective relationships, and strengthen engagement with key stakeholders to provide information, respond to enquiries, and resolve disputes effectively.
- Participate in business improvement initiatives including the development and maintenance of team systems, policies and business processes
- Identify complex, sensitive and emerging issues, and review and develop policy to improve the re-zoning process and guide the assessment of the merits of projects.
- Assist the Team Leader in the coordination of the day to day activities of a regional team and provide advice and support to junior staff.
About You
You will be an experienced Planning Officer with proven experience and reliability in previous positions.
The successful candidate will possess:
- Degree in planning, environmental management, engineering or other relevant discipline
- Demonstrated high level knowledge of relevant environmental assessment and planning legislation and processes
- Willingness to travel and (minimum) Class C Driver’s License
