AddressThe Project will be the largest mining operation in North West Queensland with a minimum mine life of 15 years, and will involve mining multiple open cut pits providing copper bearing ore to a concentrator. The mine site will include development of tailings storage facilities, waste rock dumps, power generation and an accommodation village.
Harmony is the largest gold producer, by volume, in South Africa owning and operating numerous mining and tailings retreatment operations. Harmony also owns and operates the Hidden Valley Mine in Papua New Guinea including holding 50% (Joint Venture with Newmont) in the Tier 1 Wafi-Golpu copper-gold project. These Papua New Guinea assets together with the Eva Copper Mine Project are supported by the Harmony Australasia corporate office located in Milton, Brisbane.
Harmony is currently preparing to progress the Execute Phase of the Eva Copper Mine Project in support of achieving near term 1st production and are seeking highly motivated and experienced people to join our growing project delivery and operations teams. The Execution Phase will begin July 2024 with commencement of front-end engineering and design, and in parallel preliminary site works will also be progressed in support of full project execution post final investment decision. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of defining, building and operating a major mining operation that will offer employment opportunities across the project life cycle, from project definition and delivery into operations.
The contract duration for this role will be aligned with project timelines, anticipated to be a period of up to 18 months, with potential for extension.
The Principal Process Engineerwill provide technical oversight, guidance and input to development of the Eva copper concentrator flow sheet and associated Process Engineering deliverables. In doing so, ensuring the future operation is set up for success in terms of being able to deliver on company production targets in a safe, sustainable and reliable fashion.
Responsibilities include:
- Provide input to the design of the process plant layout, selection of equipment and instrumentation.
- Provide technical guidance to the Eva Copper project team on Process Engineering matters.
- Identify processing constraints and risks within the existing flow sheet. Lead the development of solutions to optimise and de-risk the future operation.
- Review engineering and control system designs and project work scopes for accuracy and identify any risks.
- Provide comprehensive interpretation of the results of any metallurgical and processing testwork.
- Liaise with other engineering, technical, operations, and maintenance personnel to ensure project objectives are understood and activities are effectively coordinated.
- Supervise engineering and contractor site work where required during commissioning.
- Provide input to the contractors commissioning plan.
- Participate in HAZOP's, safety in design workshops, design reviews, operability and maintainability reviews.
- Engage with plant operators and develop their technical understanding of the process and control systems.
- Ensure future site operations activities are carried out in accordance with site safety policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate safe work behaviours that provide a leadership example for others.
- Understand metallurgical and processing testwork requirements to support a project business case.
- Monitor progress and expenditure associated with Process Engineering activities and make decisions or recommendations as required to minimise any variance to budget and schedule.
- Provide budget inputs for capital and operating cost updates.
- Provide Process Engineering support to construction, commissioning and operational readiness teams.
- Bachelor's Degree in either Process, Chemical or Metallurgical Engineering.
- Minimum 10 Years' experience in the design and/or operation of large-scale metalliferous mining and processing facilities.
- 10 years' operational experience, including exposure to and experience with greenfield copper recovery process design.
- Excellent communication skills and able to clearly present technical ideas, concepts and associated commercial benefits.
- Proven ability to engage with plant operations and maintenance personnel to ensure successful implementation of process improvements and projects.
- Understanding of metallurgical software packages such as Metsim and JK Simmet and Cancha modelling and comminution modelling packages such as Bruno.
This role will be based at our Brisbane office in Milton during the project design phase with regular travel to site as required.
