The Role:
As the Principle Remote Sensing you will lead a team and continually develop the Remote Sensing program in the company. You will build on your existing Remote Sensing expertise as you implement methodologies for detecting, monitoring, and managing carbon farming projects across Australia. You will review current mapping methods and establish processes for routine and on demand analysis including associated work practices, data standards and IT architecture. You will work with internal and external partners and providers in supporting delivery of this work and play a pivotal role in executing and delivering AIC's nature-based carbon services throughout Australia. You will be required to apply the Clean Energy Regulator's (CER) methods and guidelines into actionable insights for AIC's teams, clients, and associates. Your role is dynamic, cutting edge and evolving, just as the nature-based market development in Australia is.
Key Responsibilities: * Supervise and manage a geographically diverse team of Remote Sensing professionals.

  • Lead and contribute to projects to develop and operationalise Remote Sensing tools supporting AIC's carbon mapping products.
  • Lead research into Remote Sensing methodologies and techniques to drive the development and continuous improvement of Remote Sensing tools.
  • Collaborate with Ecology team to ensure mapping products meet industry best practice and standards.
  • Advise and continually improve opportunities related to contemporary programming language (python, SQL, IDL, java) to perform and automate GIS and remote-sensing workflows.
  • Responsible for quality control and approving mapping products developed by the Remote Sensing team.
  • Provide technical expertise in Remote Sensing data acquisition, data management and analytics to support compliance with carbon projects delivered under the Clean Energy Regulator.
  • Research, define, review, and develop standards and best practice methodologies for Remote Sensing data products and ensure the quality, currency and accuracy of data archives.
  • Maintain technical expertise to ensure technology and resources meet the changing needs and expectations of clients and capitalise on the growing use of technologies for the transfer of information and the promotion of information sharing.
  • Review and provide continuous improvement to capturing and processing of aerial data from UAV platforms.
  • You may be required to undertake field-based survey work, including data collection via UAV's.
  • You will be assessing the feasibility of project approaches for conservation and carbon outcomes.
  • You will assist in developing and implementing spatial monitoring programs with the ability to detect change over time.
  • You will be required to prepare and present technical information to a wide range of stakeholders (e.g. landholders, CER, AiC executives).
  • Establish and manage relationships with stakeholders across project portfolio.
  • You will be responsible for assisting AiC to expand its project portfolio.
  • Deliver on other duties as required.
Selection Criteria
Essential Requirements:
  • Tertiary qualifications in spatial or Remote Sensing discipline or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise in Remote Sensing and contemporary programming languages (python, IDL, SQL java).
  • Experience in ENVI and ArcGIS (Desktop & Server); Knowledge of other Geospatial software such as Pix4D and QGIS, etc., will be an added advantage.
  • Project management experience.
  • Managing staff, teams, contractors and delivering work programs.
Desirable:
Understanding of the interrelationships between farming systems and spatial and ecological processes.
  • Experience liaising with and reporting to state and federal government programs.
  • Environmental data analysis, database curation and administration.
  • Experience in environmental restoration projects.
  • Experience working in remote areas and hold relevant 4WD and first aid training.
  • Private industry consultancy experience.
An ideal candidate will have:
  • 10+ years' experience in a related field.
