Work location:  Perth.  Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.

Roster:  Monday to Friday

Fortescue Group Risk, Assurance and Insurance (GRAI) is seeking a Principal to support the FHS business unit. Working with dynamic and focused teams, a suitably qualified professional will be appointed to deliver high quality solutions that are aligned with both Fortescue’s risk management framework and the business objectives of FHS.

The Principal Risk and Assurance will be a member of the GRAI team, with full access to that team’s expertise, peer support and professional development opportunities, while being embedded within FHS and working closely with the business unit leaders.   

The successful candidate will demonstrate confidence and emotional intelligence in engaging with Fortescue team members at varying levels of seniority, together with strong risk management experience in a manufacturing or industrial process control environment, and an aptitude for problem solving in dynamic situations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and facilitate the delivery of risk identification and assessment workshops across the FHS business unit.
  • Provide credible advice on how risks are assessed, effectiveness of existing or planned controls and how risk management can support effective decision making.
  • Continually challenge teams to ensure new and emerging risks are identified, communicated to leaders and appropriately managed
  • Work with the relevant stakeholders to support the development of controls and their performance standards to minimise risk exposures.
  • Follow-up and verify the implementation of agreed risk improvement plans and actions.
  • Develop and maintain FHS review routines that promote active the management of risks through prevention or mitigation
  • Develop risk analysis and insights for reporting to senior management, and the Fortescue Board and Committees.
  • Review the effectiveness of risk management frameworks, standards and processes and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Intermittent travel, interstate and overseas, to provide risk management coverage across all FHS locations.

Qualifications and Experience

  • 10+ years’ experience in the delivery of risk management services within industry and/or a professional services environment.
  • Demonstrable experience in the manufacturing sector and/or industrial process control.
  • Exposure to businesses developing technologies for use in the renewable energy sector is highly regarded.
  • Involvement in driving transformation to create or apply effective frameworks for managing risk.
  • Oversight and monitoring of application of risk frameworks by the business owners of risks and controls.
  • Delivery of risk identification and assessment workshops with senior stakeholders across business operations and projects.
  • Advising on setting standards for the performance of controls, measuring that performance to assess the effectiveness of controls, and responding to ineffective controls with appropriate remediation plans.
  • Establishing and improving business processes, systems and ways of working.
