Opened in 1987, Warlawurru Catholic School caters for up to 60 Kindergarten -Year Six students. Located in the local Lundja Community of Red Hill which is situated on the outskirts of Halls Creek in the East Kimberley, the school is part of the Broome Diocese. The school motto, ‘Ngawi ngan yura, kiningi ngan yura’, translated from the Jaru as meaning ‘because of God's goodness our heart is good ‘: and following the way of Ngawi, the school seeks to nurture Gospel values and Aboriginal Spirituality.
The school participates in the Kimberley Schools Project which promotes consistent Literacy and Numeracy teaching and learning strategies across Kimberley schools. Staff are supported by coaches who visit the school with a focus on continuous improvement. The Berry Street Education Model is a strong focus for staff with a program promoting trauma aware strategies implemented across the school.
Warlawurru Catholic School seeks to empower its students so that they may be independent and walk with dignity and joy in both the Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal cultures with which they interact.
There is a strong commitment to building staff capacity to enable staff to grow as both individuals and educators, and to work collegially, collaboratively and professionally to assist students to attain their highest level of achievement.
The provision of pastoral care for all students, staff, families and parishioners is exemplary, and there is a positive and collaborative relationship with the wider school community, the parish priest and pastoral associates.
In addition to the Duties and Responsibilities of Principals, the community is seeking a principal who:
- is an authentic witness to the Catholic faith who can lead and integrate the Catholic identity of the school through all aspects of school life
- is welcoming and able to develop positive relationships within and beyond the school and parish
- has a visible presence in the school and is committed to the growth of the whole school community
- understands cultural sensitivities, whilst engaging with and supporting parents as partners in student learning
- is honest, fair, has a calm demeanour, knows the children, and recognises their dignity and uniqueness
- maximises opportunities for the development and well-being of all staff, recognising their talents and supporting their personal and professional growth
To be considered for the role of Principal you must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Be a practising Catholic and experienced educator who is committed to the objectives and ethos of Catholic Education.
- Hold Accreditation for Leadership of a Catholic School Community or its equivalent.
- A minimum four-year tertiary qualification although it would be advantageous to demonstrate significant progress towards a masters degree or higher.
- Current Teachers Registration for Western Australia (TRBWA)
- A current WA Working With Children Check (WA WWCC)

- Using the SAO model please articulate your philosophy and provide examples of two initiatives you have been involved in at leadership level in each of the pillars: - Catholic Identity - Education - Community - Stewardship
- Applicants are asked to limit their SAO responses to two (2) pages per pillar.
