The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking a Prison Intelligence Unit Supervisor to provide a critical role at Corrections and Justice Services.

About the Business Unit

H.M. Prison Langi Kal Kal is a minimum-security men's protection prison located 140klm west of Melbourne at Trawalla. The prison's primary purpose is the reintegration and preparedness of offenders for transition to release.

Corrections Victoria Intelligence Service (CVIS) is the overarching intelligence service for Corrections Victoria and its stakeholders, and forms part of the Security and Emergency Services Group, which is located at the Metropolitan Remand Centre. Presently, the CVIS comprises the primary Intelligence Unit known as the Corrections Victoria Intelligence Unit (CVIU) and intelligence officers located at the twelve public and two private prison facilities in Victoria.

About the Role

The position of Supervisor, Prison Intelligence Unit (PIU) falls within the Corrections Victoria Intelligence Unit and its primary role and purpose is to provide a centrally located and identifiable focal point within the prison facility for all intelligence related matters.

The position assists prison management in maintaining the security, good order and management of prison facilities by gathering, recording, analysing and disseminating information in order to prevent prisoner escapes, prevent the introduction and usage of contraband within prisons and to identify possible prisoner incidents/unrest.

As a Supervisor PIU, you supervise and assist in, the collection, collation, recording and analysis of particular information available to theprison Intelligence Unit, and develop this information for presentation to management, and for distribution to authorised persons/external agencies.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Provide leadership and direction into the ongoing development and coordination of the Prison Intelligence Unit
  • Manage and provide leadership to all Prison Intelligence Unit Personnel
  • Work with all members of the prison towards ensuring the safety and security of prisoners, staff and visitors.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and the ability to use, computer software such as Microsoft Office Word and Excel, internal CV computer system, including Protel and e-mail.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with the operation of the prisoner telephone system, prisoner mail, and prisoner visit lists.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and the ability to apply relevant legislation, policy and procedure relating to CV and the management of its prison facilities.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of the Corrections Victoria Intelligence Course or equivalent
  • Victorian Prison Officer Pre Service training or completed training in an equivalent jurisdiction.
  • Possession of or progression towards an accredited Intelligence Analysts qualification (desirable)
